K7S8X motherboard
Trying to upgrade my PC, the specs for the K7S8X says it will support DDR 266 Max. 3GB, DDR 333 Max. 2GB, DDR 400 Max. 1GB.
So I have bought 2 x 512MB DDR 333 for now but when I tried to install them it did not boot up. I presume I have to change some jump pins on the board but the choice I have are all for positions quoting 100, 133, 166 or 200Mhz.
Does anybody know what I set to get the 333 working.

Re: K7S8X motherboard
Thanks for the reply.
I may come accross as a bit dense to you computer boffins but have tried the settings on page 12 and although the computer boots up my monitor stays in standby mode.
Any ideas please.

Perhaps you board needs a BIOS update before it can accept PC3200, have you still got the old memory? If so, stick it back in and check the newer BIOS revisions on the manufacturers site to see if it mentions it.

Re: K7S8X motherboard
Sounds like a jumpers prob to me. Double check them. No expert but you want the jumpers set to 166. For some reason they double up to 333. Not sure why. Don't think it'll be a bios thing. I've got 256mb (333) in my K7S8X board. ITs a r3.01 or something....mine did the same 'cos i didn't understande the jumper setting at first.

Re: K7S8X motherboard
Ok on further investigation it seems I cannot run any of the 4 sticks on 166Mhz. The most it will run on is 133Mhz on 166MHz the monitor does not boot up.
The cpu is a 1.67 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP
x86 Family 6 Model 8 stepping 1.
Is my processor good enough to run at 166Mh. Any ideas on how to solve this problem

Sounds like an Athlon XP 2000+, which only has a 266 (133) mhz FSB so unless you motherboard let's you alter the memory speed seperately from the CPU FSB then you're stuck at 133.
