Re: Sharing specific files on XP network

well you could alter the security on them, but it would be better to share a folder and just put the files you want to share in it.

Re: Sharing specific files on XP network

how do you mean by secuirty on them?

It would be easier to share an entire folder, or in case of a specific files on a dvd, to move them onto the computer then share that folder, but its just an extra step thats unnecessary and inconvenient if theres a way possible and hard drive is limited on space.

Re: Sharing specific files on XP network

Question: what if i set up my desktop as a FTP server, networked it to another computer (client) and then gave permissions to different users on the network ? would that work... or would it have to access the ftp server through a non-network IP address.

I'm not sure I even understand the question.

What are you actually trying to achieve ?
