Re: promo stuff........
A genuine promo as opposed to what? A regular copy?
Are you talking about a promo copy you're considering buying as a collector's item?
I think they usually say 'promotional copy. Not for sale', or words to that effect.

Re: promo stuff........
Genuine promos will have stickers on them explaining they're not for resale. Seeing as these stickers can be removed there's no real way of confirming it.
I get to see promo albums and singles on a daily basis and they've all got the same features.

If it is properly printed, I would think it is probably genuine, but I suppose you never know.
Best not to pay too much for it. I have a stack of 'collector's items' items in the loft that I think few people are interested in these days.
Anyone for Sonic Youth's original Kill Yr Idols album (Vinyl, on Zensor records 1981, rereleased years later, but this is the original)?
I also have the first Jesus and Mary Chain 7". Upside down/Vegetable Man. Not many of those around, but I doubt many people would be interested...

Re: promo stuff........
Sorry I forgot to add, you *can* get a letter of authenticity from the record company but that's usually only done in the case of radio/tv stations, magazines etc when they offer promo cds as prizes, as some fans can get a bit arsey about what they're getting.
It's very unusual for a member of the public to have a letter addressed to them personally from the company for obvious reasons so treat any examples as suspicious.

Regarding your 'user title': do you mean 'sociOlogical', rather than 'sociAlogical'? (capitals just for clarity)
