New PC (XP not Vista)

I've seen the Vista Downgrade to XP thread on http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/19...ade-to-xp.html

Does anyone know if Dell, PC World or anyone sell NEW PC's (Desktop) with XP already on it NOT Vista? Dell were doing it on a few models last time I looked but cant find them now.

Aldi have a nice PC next week (but with Vista). I know I could wipe H/D & use XP, but what if not all Drivers work? Safer to buy it with XP already on...

Any ideas?

Re: New PC (XP not Vista)

A friend who used to deal with DELL used to ring them up and customize a PC over the phone, they used to buy PC's with no OS instead of the bundled one...(places like novatech do the same) Perhaps going this route and then buying an OEM XP might be better if no-one offers XP anymore

Re: New PC (XP not Vista)

Hi Kymmy, the OEM route is fine, but would the Vista PC Tower have XP Drivers? Like some these days have HDMI out & stuff, Basic H/D, RAM, DVD Players should be ok with XP finding Auto Drivers on fresh install, but Graphics, Audio & Network Cards are the worry.

Re: New PC (XP not Vista)

Check the Dell website for XP drivers for the PC you intend to downgrade?

Re: New PC (XP not Vista)

Most boards are still on VIA/INTELL or NFORCE chipsets so M/B drivers are no issue, also all add-on cards are produced elsewhere amd not just for Dell so the drivers should be available from the manufacturers site. It only tends to be some laptops from the big manufacturers that have limited and specific drivers

Re: New PC (XP not Vista)

PC World Business department definitely still sell machines with XP.

Dell Business laptops are definitely still available with the XP 'downgrade'.

I've had dealings with both of these recently.
