New built PC won't POST or beep.
Help!
I've tried to build my PC (Pentium D 805, Gigabyte Intel 945P board etc) and it won't POST or beep.
I put in the processor, heatsink, memory, graphics and did the case connections (power switch, etc). Turned it on, and the heatsink whirled and remained to whirl, but nothing happened. display can't detect a signal and I can't hear any beeps. I changed the PC speaker in case it was that, but it still won't beep.
I then removed the graphics, and memory to see if that will make it beep. It didn't. Took off the heatsink and process, and it still won't beep or POST.
Is the motherboard knackered? I don't think its shorting as the heatsink remains on, but i'm going to try it out the case anyway, just in case
What does everyone reckon?

Well, it's got to be the mobo or the CPU. Swap one.

Re: New built PC won't POST or beep.
Yeah I think that too Altis
Tried it out the case and it still didn't work.
I've tried it without the processor, and it still doesn't post or beep, so its got to be the motherboard hasn't it?
I am sure i've got the PC speaker installed right. Any other suggestions for diagnostics?

Re: New built PC won't POST or beep.
Take the battery out then short it and leave it for a few minutes. Then reverse, remove short and re-insert the battery.
If you leave the battery in while shorting the cmos clear jumper then the battery can give enough of a trickle charge to that the cmos doesn't clear properly.
Leave the machine plugged into the wall but with the socket switched off. This means the machine will still be earthed.
Edit:
You could also try removing the motherboard from the case and setting it on that spongy pad that you didn't throw away .
The motherboard could be shorting on the case.

What about the PSU?
No seriously, the extra 12V connecter is connect alright isn't it? An is it a 20 or 24 pin ATX connector (not sure which board)? Take out the motherboard and check the motherboard tray for an extra mounting or something you may have screwed in that could be shorting things.
Edit: What Zingle said then!

Re: New built PC won't POST or beep.
looking at the manual suggests that this mobo will work with 20 or 24 pin ATX connectors, but I'm not sure if a 'blanking' connector is necessary in the 4 pin socket, if a 20 pin one is used???

Re: New built PC won't POST or beep.
Thanx for the help guys.
I did plug the 20 pin atx in, and the 4 pin power. The graphics card powered up, that means the 4 pin power plug was plugged in correctly? Both were plugged in until they clicked.
I tried installing the motherboard outside the case, that didn't work
