You might consider a Freecom..they are proving reliable for me and my daughter

and that second choice of yours is cheaper here

Re: external hard drives?
Ive had 2 Bufflao link stations now, they connect via ethernet instead.. the first one gave up the ghost after 6 months (and being leeched to buggery at the 1st NTHW Lan) so i bought another bigger one. So far its been stable for about 14 months, no problems at all... i use it as a media drive on my network to allow all the computers and media players (roku soundbridge) to have access to it... works really well....

Re: external hard drives?
I've previously found Lacie to be quite reliable.. Apart from the fact that I left my 160 Gig external drive switched on at work over the weekend, the fan siezed and the resulting increase in temperature* damaged the drive.
Not surprisingly, I came in on Monday to find the drive making an awful screech, and bringing up data errors.
There are currently around 30 computers in my office (around 15 in the office, and 16 in the lab we created by partitioning the office),no aircon, and the windows were closed so it got a little hot in the office last weekend.

Re: external hard drives?
I've had a 250Gb My Book since May and so far it's been perfect. It's attached to my Asus Router and I use it as a shared network drive for all my PC's.
It's even cheaper here.

Re: external hard drives?
you can get an a USB adapter thing that will plug into the usb and use an inteternal hard drive externally - if you see what I mean. I have seen them in Maplins and they are about £25

Re: external hard drives?
okay, well i just have one more question really since it seems like most any would be just as good as the other, i know these come with power cords, but do you have to have the power cord plugged in all the time? or does it charge for a while, and then you just turn it on whenever without the need for a power cord for a little bit?

Re: external hard drives?
I have an external hard drive (Freecom & Toshiba). Both are externally powered, and are normally left on permanently - however, this is just becuase it is akward getting to the power sockets. They can be turned off.
