Second STB

I know there was a thread recently about using multiple tv's but as it was regarding america i thought i would start a new post.

Here is the situation hope someone can give me some usefull info:

At the moment we have 1 NTL STB with the base pack £11.50 plus a phone line £11 (i think) and 4MB BB (after the upgrade from 2MB) £24.99.

My brother was thinking of getting another STB for his room so he could have cable there as he is currently with sky and thought it would be cheaper to go with NTL but he has been told that for the extra STB it is £25 installation (which is no problem) but it will be £15 for for the base pack.

How does this work as the base pack is £11.50 so where does the extra £3.50 come from.

Was just wondering if anyone has any idea why it is £15 or if anyone else has a similar set up and can let me know how much you are paying for the extra STB.

Thankyou
Lid

Re: Second STB

hi

The £15 is for the extra stb rental - with that you get whatever pack you are already on, at no extra charge, so if you had the family pack, your brother would also get the family pack, it would still cost £15.

Re: Second STB

But we are only on the base pack which costs £11.50 which includes the STB so my brother will be paying £15 to watch the same channels that everyone else gets charged £11.50 for.

You're paying for the hire of the extra STB.

What OB said, also bear in mind that he will be able to watch a different channel to you, provided it is in the same pack - so you could watch Sky 1 & he could watch UKGold, at the same time, that is why a second box is a better option than splitting the cable, but you do need to pay for the rental of the second box.

- if NTL were charging twice for the base pack it would cost you an extra £11.50 plus £15 for the second stb rental.

Re: Second STB

It's just the way the price structure works. Flat rate for the additional STB. Think of it the other way round. If your first STB got all the movie packs, SKy Movies and the like, your price for the first STB would be much higher - then you'd get value from the second STB.

TBH, think about freeview if your just after a few channels extra for the bedroom.

Re: Second STB

If you were doing it the other way around and were splitting Sky via a second box you would have to pay for a second box and then pay £10 per month for a second subscription. Slightly cheaper in the long run but if the second sky box fails after 12 months it's down to you to replace it.
