Firefox 2 Beta 1 Available
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o....installer.exe
Get it the now if you want - Remember peeps - this is BETA!
According to www.TomsHardware.com

Don't expect dramatic changes, but rather subtle improvements in Firefox' user interface. For example, the "Options" menu has been reorganized and every browser tab now carries its own "Close" symbol - instead of showing the logo on the right edge of the browser tab. During our first test run, the beta appeared to run stable, but - as all Firefox updates - may require updated versions of previously installed browser extensions.

It also has a built in spell checker apparently.

Re: Firefox 2 Beta 1 Available
Might be worth a look after the beta stage, if only for the speel chucker
For now though, I'm converted to Opera from FF 1.5

Re: Firefox 2 Beta 1 Available
Just trying it now.
The spell checker is working, sort of. It works, but I cannot add a new dictionary...I am stuck with the US dictionary at the moment. It tells you to use the Thunderbird versions, but that doesn't work either.
You now have a choice of Feed Readers. It checks for anti-phishing sites.
Extensions and themes are now called Add Ons.
Seems okay up to now. Though the dictionary seems a bit limited...see the attachment
Just make sure that you have the nightly tester tools extension, to make your extensions compatible.

Re: Firefox 2 Beta 1 Available
I have the Tab Mix Plus extension. That doesn't work properly now. The new feature of having the close button on the tab itself, this was what TMP did and now TMP is overriding the inbuilt and won't work. Just a warning.

As I said, I'll wait until it's out of beta, and then its gonna have to go some to beat opera IMHO.

Easily sorted...I just went back to using tabbrowser preferences, which didn't have the option of close buttons.
I like Opera, it's better than I.E., but I prefer FF...but lets not turn this into a FF v Opera thread...this is about the beta release.
It does appear to faster, for me anyway, than 1.5.

Re: Firefox 2 Beta 1 Available
Anything to increase speeds good by me, are the 'tweaks' in-built, as in 1.5 ? as in max connections etc etc

Re: Firefox 2 Beta 1 Available
I wonder if that means it comes with the correct dictionary? Getting another dictionary to work with Firefox Beta involves moving the dictionary files:

Re: Firefox 2 Beta 1 Available
Looks pretty good to me, seems quite stable, and some pretty sweet technological advances for Developers.
