how to get rid of ntl ? help !
hello,
I subscribed to NTL's value back (2m boadband initally + family pack tv + basic phone service) in May, I will have to move this week to a new flat but the landlord don't want to have a cable line installed because according to him the NTL technician will leave a mess.
Do i have a chance to get rid of NTL even if i have been with them for less than a year because my landlord won't let me have cable acess ? I am also going to move to France in september (i know always moving) do i have to wait till september to cancel my subscriptin based on teh fact that i am moving abroad ?
thanks for your help ! I feel trapped here

NTL will charge you for the full remaining part of your 12 months contract, as far as I know, there are no exceptions.

No as the name on the bill would need changing etc which would mean ending the contract and re-starting it. Just tell NTL you are having to move and that your next property is not serviced by them. If they cannot offer the service at the new address they shouldn't charge you as far as I know.

It would be classed by NTL as a new account, the incoming people would need to apply for service, and pass the credit control NTL use, so again, no.

i think i'm just going to follow paul's advice, if they are not reasonable enough to understand my situation too bad for them ! i' going to permanently move to France in september anyway so good luck for them if they want to harass me to pay for a service they can't provide

Maybe ntl thinks it's reasonable that if people sign a 12 month contract (even tho the customer knew well beforehand that they would be moving away before the 12 months are up!!!), they actually honour it...

Re: how to get rid of ntl ? help !
darklord if you knew you were going to France in September why did you take out a 12 month contract for service? Once you move if you haven't paid the bills then it's the next tenant that ends up with a bad credit rating, debt collectors and possible court action to sort out.
Call NTL, explain you are moving to a new property and that the landlord will not allow NTL installations. Get a letter from him stating this and offer to send it recorded delivery to NTL to prove you cannot take their service at the new location.

I would have to agree, why did you enter in to a contract when you knew you would not be able to honour it?
Credit reference agencies can no longer blacklist a property only the person who has run up the debt however it does not stop the mail and the people knocking on the door of the new tennants!
Whenever you return to the UK your going to find it hard to obtain credit!
Why not downgrade all your services to the min pack available, infact if you have all three services you can remove two of them, try canceling the phone and tv but keep the broadband active on the 1MB package!
Yes you can do this, I found this out by calling NTL when I was on my 10th month, I was told I can remove services but I would have to keep at least one in order to keep my account active until the 12 months is up!
Your not allowed to cancel your account untill the 12 months is up if you do then you have to pay the outstanding amount!

The problem with that is NTL will have to start doing proffesional, clean & tidy installations!
I don't think they know how to do that!

Re: how to get rid of ntl ? help !
the probleme is that when i susbcribed to the ntl value pack i did not know i would have to move to France in september , I just found out 2weeks ago
I am going to try to explain my situation to NTL but if they don't understand, i dunno what to do, paying for a service i cannot receive doesn't seem fair

If that is the case, I am on the 3 for £44.99 at the moment. Could I get rid of the telephone, keep the TV and Broadband, and if so, how much would that cost? I have family pack, TUL and 4mb. Cheers.

Re: how to get rid of ntl ? help !
Well when I cancelled I could not keep the tv if I got rid of the phone so I got rid of both, it is customer services who will cancel the services as retentions only deal with account closures!
I would guess you would pay £24.99 for your broadband, and £19.50 for your tv. giving a grand total of: £44.49 not worth dropping your phone line if you ask me well until your offer expires!

I knew fo sure i would need to change my accomodation 3 weeks ago if that changes something

and for the installation, i don't think it did cost them much since when i arrived in the place I currently am it was already wired for cable with all the sockets (previous occupant was an NTL customer) they just had to reactivate the line
