Ntl Heaven to BT Hell!

Hi people,
I have been on these forums before and often found the advice very useful so I decided to sign up. The main reason for doing so is because I seem to be having a nightmare with BT. Having been with NTL for about 5 years I was always happy with the service but due to high costs I decided to leave. BIG MISTAKE!

I moved to over to BT with phone (option 1) and Broadband (Top package - upto 8mb) anyway I got everything threw and set it all up and everything worked ok. Just the speed of downloads is terrible! In my area I am supposed to get a maximum 4mb but my router reports I connect at about 3.4mb which isn't the best but I can survive im no pirate lol. Anyway, when I want to download I get at maximum 55Kb/s and thats from downloading from verious sites on the net. So, I checked the equipment out and found that my Line Attenuation was 53.0db so I went out and bought a microfilter from a mate who does networking as a profession so I know it good, anyway that dropped it to 15.0db but still downloads remain the same and if I restart my router it goes back to 53.0db or sometimes 15.0db.

Anyideas on why I am having this problem? My BT exchange is only a mile away so distance shouldn't be the problem, there again im not expert so any advice would be greatly appriciated. Oh also, I have checked all the wiring around the house and its all fine.

Many thanks,

Matt
