economic migrants
the government has plans to charge economic migrants £500 more on top of the existing application processing fees the figure is not a final one
the home office has argued that those who want to come to the uk for economic reasons should pay a bit more due to the beneifts they recieve
the estimated money that would be raised is £450m a year
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3300193.stm
i think this is a good idea if economic migrants want to come to this country for financial reasons i doubt £500 will be much to them
i just hope if it does happen the money gets spent on a sector that benefits everyone

The largest number of illegal economic migrants in the UK just now are from New Zealand and Australia.
I can hardly see them claiming asylum !!

I am not disputing what you are saying there but do you have any links to back that up? That would make interesting reading.

I can't see them trying to bring over all there family either. Plus there not going to be hiding in trucks and things to get over here are they. So they have to prove that they can support themselve's while over here

Re: economic migrants
this country of ours is ,unfortunatley a soft touch for immigrants!
now i'm all for the asylum process however, why do some of these asylum seekers travel through 3 or 4 countries before claiming asylum?
perhaps its the welfare system, nhs and free housing or am i just being cynical?

Could I borrow that brush of yours, please?
Once I've cleaned the tar off it, it should let me paint the entire front of my house in one go...

Re: economic migrants
Well I'd certainly read it. I'm not trying to sound argumentative but it would be easy for the organisers of that seminar to make any claim they wanted to back up their cause. I'm not suggesting for one moment it's what they did but in an emotive discussion such as this it would be helpful to have such links to back up comments otherwise they stop being "the facts" and become "what I think".

Er no. Unfortunately there are people mostly of Asian background I find that were born here yet insist on speaking Arabic in public.
