Smile Vista-Windows mail-very poor

Hi all,

ive just swapped my aging home built P3 500mhz for a new lappy. I'd been searching for a while for the right model with a good spec but not over priced. In the end i bought a Toash A210-12U

see here

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.c...RIES_ID=131680

£499 john lewis,2 year warranty..very pleased with it..

Anyway to the point,it has windows vista home premium on it. When i came to sort out my email accounts i realised the fatal flaw in MS new crappy mail programme, the replacement for outlook. It doesnt allow multiple identities, or at least not easily. This has been discontinued as a "security" measure.

What rubbish. Why not let the user decide by providing a setting in the software?

Having hacked around for a while i checked out the latest version of the excellent Mozilla Thunderbird. Downloaded, installed, absolutely brilliant, everything that outlook should have been.

Incidentally, i have MS office 2002 and i tried that at first however i noted that incoming html was displayed by default and there seemed to be no tick box to turn it off so i cant use that. Nevermind, with thunderbird, there is no need for anything else.

I always use Thunderbird, I have it installed on a USB stick so that I can access my IMAP4 Inbox (stored at home) from anywhere

I just use Hotmail do not bother with any other type.

Outlook was never part of windows outlook express was and that was always poor anyway

IIRC if you sign up somewhere on the M$HQ site for some beta disc sets your get Outlook gratis

Windows Mail is not a replacement for Outlook - it's a replacement for Outlook Express.

What do you mean multiple ID's?

And I wouldn't bother with the bloat of Outlook as a pop3 email client anyway.

Thunderbird all the way for me, at home that is.

Outlook is great - although 2007 is a bit chunky!

It does everything I want it too, very configurable, sync's with ease to my Windows Smartphone!
