Modem Issues

Hi. I thought i'd ask here before i phoned NTL. I have the old terayon 210 modem on 1mb broadband. Running WinXP with AVG antivirus. System is also clean of any spyware, malware or adware. The problem started when NTL upgraded me from 300kb to the 1mb. My modem would without warning stop working. by this i mean the Cable light would either turn off or flash slowly. This would happen for say every 5 minutes for 2 days then work brilliantly for 2 weeks. the problem still occurs if i have my firewall on or off. Does this sound like a connection problem with NTL or is my modem most likely knackered? thanks.
