Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

hi was wondering if any of you use http://www.evolutiondsl.net for your broadband at all they seem to me to have the best overall deal but have no idea what they are like ...
was looking at there office deal cos upload is better is 35.24 with the vat cos office product

Up to 8192kbps download
Up to 832kbps upload
Three month contract period
Unlimited download allowance
Free Static IP
20 POP3 accounts, 50 email addresses
50Mb webspace

Monthly Cost: £29.99

For a limited period all migrations from other ADSL providers are FREE!

found this also good news if p2p or ftp'ing
On all our ADSL and SDSL products, there are

NO Transfer Limits
NO Server / Hosting Restrictions
NO P2P blocking or forced proxies
Additionally all our packages come FREE with the following (terms and conditions apply):
Optional static IP addressing
Your choice of hostname (user.evolutiondsl.net) mapping to your IP address or webspace
POP3 account with up to 5 email addresses (up to 5 POP3 accounts for business ADSL/SDSL)
Webmail - access your email from any browser
Virus and spam scanning on all inbound emails
Your own webspace with PHP support, no bandwidth limits and FTP access

the only diff on the home product is upload 448kbps cost 24.99 ukp
but i think for xtra 10quid is worth it cannot find contention ratio but alot of other sites offering adsl max products with higher upload has been Contention: 20:1 otherwise with home is 50:1 so i think my mind has been made up 99% of the way just need your views guys and gals please

Firstly, you should check with their checker to see what speeds your exchange is capable of providing you with. Personally, I've never heard of this provider, but they are being discussed here at the moment. It would be a good idea to read what people are saying, that are actually with them.

PN's package isn't really similar. It's heavily traffic shaped and throttles get worse and worse the more you use. P2P/NNTP on their most extreme throttle levels will only run at 64kbps, and all traffic will be throttled if they object to your usage overall.

To add to this. I might be moving my line to these tomorrow. I have given Ukonline till tomorrow to sort there lives out and tell me something that is truthful or i will be asking for a mac code from them. They have agreed to give me the mac code tomorrow if they cannot put me on the llu mux instead of the bt one. I was informed last week that they would move me today however i have since been told 2 different stories and if they don't tell me the truth tomorrow then the can sod off.

Come back here tomorrow for a update.

Re: Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

Have today been warned by people in the industry not to sign up with Evolution dsl. Seems they are already losing speed and they are not replying to support emails. Also the owner of this company does not inspire confidence in me one little bit. Thankfully i have not been installed yet and therefor under the distance selling laws can cancel. Have sent a email to them cancelling however i have been warned it might be ignored by them.

I am not having any luck at all with adsl. The one company i wanted to sign up with are not in my area till august. So i might end up keeping my ntl cable modem till August and then sign up with BE then.

Not sure on your experience of usage with plusnet..... The traffic shaping isnt done until you break usage limits..... whilst the limits are weird... i.e. your allowed XGb per month between 8am and 4pm, and XGb per month between 4pm and midnight and then unlimited usage between midnight and 8am.... providing you dont go over the limits your not shaped... (im certainly not) i use newsgroups heavily... and get almost 8mb constant... There is an option in the control panel that you can setup to shape your own traffic too, allowing you to set the proritised traffic for your connection...

Im sure this is the 2nd time ive seen you knocking PN, are your comments through experience? or by sitting on the sideline watching in?

Re: Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

evolutiondsl.net has a contention ratio of 200:1 no wonder they are having problems.

I thought it was normally 50:1 for residential and 20:1 for business???

I'm merely saying that PN traffic shape like hell, and that they cap usage which is a complete opposite to someone like Evo that claim to not shape or limit at all.

With all due your experience may be fine, a lot are not. I am not a customer and wouldn't touch a company that underinvests in bandwidth so heavily with a barge pole

My knowledge of this company is down to both reading the misinformation their staff have spread in the past on internet forums, and from having a friend on their business customer premium package finding his P2P and NNTP shaped 24x7 and absolutely unusable at peak times, which goes for everyone clean allowance or not, they are appauling for P2P / NNTP at peak times as even if it's the 'clean' allowance they still prioritise it lower than web/mail and their network is heavily contended. Without the shaping their network would melt down, fact.

I'm sure it's great for you, but for someone who wants an uncapped or an unshaped service it's totally inappropriate. You're an exception indeed if you get full speed 24x7 on NNTP considering they shape VNC traffic even. http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthre...Number=2399190

Please don't start defending your ISP against the nasty man criticising them I'm getting a strong defensive vibe from you, and unless you're prepared to defend your electricity, gas and water suppliers with the same vigour I'll happily ignore the above as being geeky ranting.

http://www.plus.net/press/press_releases/12042006.shtml FTW.

Nope it was 50:1 on the old 2Mbit non-max home product, that was a 'nominal' contention ratio and not an absolute. BT now don't publish contention ratios.

It was just an extrapolation from the existing 50:1 on 2Mbit to 200:1 for an 8Mbit service, not information on how contended they actually are, that'd be next to impossible to figure out.

People need educating on Plusnet, hopefully when they start losing customers they'll get the idea what consumers really want, rather then dictating what we want.

Re: Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

Now now, you can't claim to educate someone about their ISP if it's working fine for them and fulfilling their needs.

I've asked a few of the above questions of someone who I know has had a lot of experience with PN.

BTW Just to clarify the reason I mentioned PN's underinvestment in bandwidth is that in January of 2005 they had 2635Mbit/s of interconnection bandwidth to BT available, at this time this interconnect was noted to be hitting 90% utilisation.

In January of 2006, with 10s of thousands more users, PN had.... wait for it..... 2635Mbit/s of interconnection bandwidth to BT available for Plusnet customers' use. They floated and became a public company February of 2005.

Well yes, I guess its no problem for old granny who can only just about move the mouse for web and emails.

Theres no need to know somebody on Plusnet, there are more than enough horror stories written and enough tosh on their site to be able to slate them.

Or maybe I should just accept I am just a hardcore user ;o
