Upgraded from 1Mb to 10Mb - what you think of my speed?

I been with NTL 1MB broadband since July 2004. Phoned up the 0800 0522000 option 2 CS telling them I thinking of leaving cos of cheaper alternative ISP's now are available in my area. The deal they offered my to stay with them a while longer is an upgrade to 10MB line for £9.99 pcm for 6 months. Not bad I thought, I just have to remember to ring them up again after 5 months 3 weeks to see what other deal they can offer me then. Oh and of course to to check my bank statements to see that they do charge me the correct amount. Anyway have just run a speedtest:
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/sp...0c8b6ade7514e3
_Downstream 3319 Kbps (414.9 KB/sec) 3584 Kbps (inc. overheads)
____Upstream 498 Kbps (62.3 KB/sec) 537 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I notice my upload rate has been massively improved, but download rate at half the capability. Do you think its because of peak time congestion? I have the ntl home 200 stand alone modem wired into Linksys WRT54G router > wireless client PCs.

Try connecting your pc directly to the modem via ethernet and see if it will go any higher.

Yeah I may do, but that solution won't be suitable cos I need to have 3 wireless laptops sharing the internet connection. I'll run the speed tests at night and late evening when I get back home, to see if my line can give me 10Mbps

**update**
Just got my brother to run test on "10Mb" NTL cable and I get this speed now:
Downstream 3840 Kbps (480.0 KB/sec) 4147 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 494 Kbps (61.8 KB/sec) 533 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Hardly near the max possible 1,120KB/s download rate or whatever.

You have to remember those words "up to", which as far as seeing 10meg goes, means "virtually never".
If your getting anything above 4-5 meg, thats more like the average.

And also says that your router's WAN port might be limiting it

I guess you're right, but at least its better than the previous 1Mb speeds so I'm happy.

Could be. Oh, just a thought. Would 11Mbps wireless connection limit my download rate like this? Strong possibility?

That's what i get im on 10mb ntl and i have a wirless network with 3 computers on it. I feel very lucky and have never had problem with ntl, I live in the overstone area in northampton.

My average download rate is at 1.2mb/s and have had 2.5mb/s of a uk server.

When i use a dan ellewel internet test speeds have had a 9600k/s speed which is f***king fast if i get my figures right that 9.8mb/s thats off uk server

I'm going to upgrade to 10Mbps tomorrow, but yesterday i was getting download speeds reaching 900KB/s to 2.7MB/s and i'm on a 2MB service with NTL. All is normal today though.
