Re-connecting after pulling out modem

Hi

I have a STB and get my broadband through that.

When i pull out the 'USB connector' from my computer and then put it back again internet connection is kindoff lost.

I can still ping web addresses e.g. google but i cant get web pages in the browser, no IM, etc

i have ran ipconfig and it still has the ip address. i have tried to renew the ip address see if that helps

if i reboot computer its all ok again.

is there away to get the net back up and running properly without having to reboot

thanks

Re: Re-connecting after pulling out modem

That's probably as usual, asy1mpo. Certainly with ethernet you need to reboot; I would assume this is so for a USB connection, as well.

Re: Re-connecting after pulling out modem

are you safely removing the usb adaptor, or just pulling it out?

Re: Re-connecting after pulling out modem

If you want to unplug your modem without rebooting the PC then first goto 'network connections' and then 'disable' your connection. You can then disconnect, reconnect, power off, power on without losing the settings. Just 'enable' your connection again when you've finished doing whatever you wanted to do.

I use this every time my 2mb connection fails (on average once a week). I need to reboot the modem when this happens and, unless I follow this routine before rebooting the modem, it doesn't work unless you switch off the PC, reboot the modem, and then reboot the PC afterwards. This was what I used to do when the BB went off.

'Network Connections' is in the 'Control Panel', I have a shortcut on my Desktop though...

theres the reason for windows having the "Safely remove device" functionality.

Yanking it out is bound to cause problems.
