Re: Remote & box problems

Hi to the site.

There was a work around posted a couple of weeks ago, not sure if it will work but if you turn the back light down on the tv it should work, you can find this in the settings for the TV.

Let us know if/how you fixed.

Re: Remote & box problems

The known issue with plasma screen TV's is that they emit IR signals on the same frequencies that the remote uses to operate the STB. The same problem is also sometimes experienced with energy saving lightbulbs or fluorescant tubes.

If the TV appears to be causing it you can move the STB behind the TV. If it's the lights there's not much to do but turn them off.

If it's neither of those, check if the red light is permanently on on the front of your remote. If it is, try changing the batteries, if that doesn't work then I'd advise calling faults for a replacement. This should be free as it'd be a genuine fault with the remote.

Re: Remote & box problems

If the Remote is buggered they should send you out a new one for free with some packaging in which to return the old one.

Re: Remote & box problems

It is their property so they have to replace the remote for free, unless of course you broke it!

You will also have to return the faulty unit!

If NTL are trying to charge you then if I was you call them back and complain!

Re: Remote & box problems

NTL have now brought in a new remote control policy. If you have been installed within 12 months of your remote breaking and you've gone through diagnostics with the agent, the replacement will be free of charge. If there was an unusual fault with the remote, they may ask you to send the old one back.

If you have had your NTL STB installed for over 12 months or you have damaged the remote yourself, there will be a £15 charge for a new one.

Hope that clears things up.

agreed, image if your a customer like myself who has no contractual obligation to ntl and they say I have to pay it creates tension and possibility of threatening to cancel. at the end of the day they supplied me the remote and I rang customer services and did all diagnostics with them, they sent a replacement apparantly which I will be charged for, once I got the replacement they sent the wrong model so they do some checks and appologise and send a new one.

If they want there remote which looks in 100% working order the originally faulty remote they can have it.
