Beyonce ambushed by PETA
PETA won an Ebay auction to have dinner with her - and this is what happened.

Re: Beyonce ambushed by PETA
Here is John Varley's (one of my favourite SF authors) view on PETA; he makes some interesting points (imho)
http://www.varley.net/Pages/VarleyYa...%2024%2005.htm
His summation is -
Bottom line:
If you CHOOSE not to eat meat, eggs, and dairy product because you think it will make you healthier, you’re probably right, and I’m behind you all the way.
If you CHOOSE not to eat meat, wear fur or leather, or use make-up that was tested on animals or medical procedures developed by testing with animals, that’s your right. We disagree, but you can do what you please.
But if you CHOOSE to do any of the above and thereby set yourself up as somehow morally superior to me ... you can kiss my carnivorous ass.

Well that was a completely unremarkable encounter ... the PETA woman was really quite polite and Beyonce didn't retort by hurling invective (although she did seem to be shrinking into her seat).

Typical PETA. That's out of order... What a waste of a dinner. Think of the good that that dinner could have done to a kid suffering with/dying of cancer. Instead PETA used it to further their (IMO bulls**t) agenda. That dinner could have been auctioned off to rich people and the money given to charity. What a needless waste.

It's not exactly a limited resource, she has dinner every day.

Re: Beyonce ambushed by PETA
I got enough problems in my life without having to worry about a few fur coats.I wear leather and eat meat and mink and some others are nasty little creatures that if they got there chance would sink there teeth into me.Maybe they could be killed more humanely but I aint got the inclination to worry about them.

It was just a waste. The time could have been much better spent on much more deserving people.

Hm, they won the ebay auction, paid for it and all. Surely it is up to them what they do with it (within reason)?

As I understand it, PETA's primary aim is to generate publicity for their own anti-fur campaign. This stunt has done that, has it not? How is it a waste of time?

Re: Beyonce ambushed by PETA
For God's sake, not again...
When have I said PETA couldn't do it?
Yes they've done nothing wrong, they were perfectly entitled to do what they did, but I still think it was a waste. I am legally entitled to run random taps in my house for random lengths of time. I still pay pay for it, but its still a waste of water and money. That money I wasted could have been given to charity.
And Stu, i'd say enriching the lives of kids dying of cancer is a more worthwhile pursuit than a bit of PR for an anti-fur campaign, that doesn't exactly need PR.
I knew it was a mistake posting in the poxy Current Affairs forum again. Any more questions about my opinions on this matter can be directed to a brick wall or somewhere I can't mention for breaking the T&Cs.

What have kids with cancer got to do with anything? Their campaign is to outlaw fur. This stunt was to get people discussing fur. It seems to have acheived this.
If you start bringing other campaigns into this, you might as well start arguing it's pointless doing anything while charities need help.

Re: Beyonce ambushed by PETA
Hmmm have you seen how much these people pay for a meal?
Prob more than I earn in a week!
Why don't they go to their local chippy and donate the rest they would have spent to charity!
