Re: FAX via broadband?

you have to use a third party to do it, and I don't know any free ones.

- one suggestion, download a copy of 'Open Office' (free )

http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.1/index.html

and use the 'save as pdf' facility with your file, then attach the pdf to an email. (works as a genuine 'save as', not a printer driver, like some pdf generators)

(warning it is a big download 78MB)

Re: FAX via broadband?

Looking at what Google spewed i don't think i'll bother. Just signed up for agency work and there preffered method is to fax (dunno why?).

I'll just scan my timesheet and email it instead. Thanks Rob

If i did that Zeph i'd have to start looking at extension kits that would run to the bedroom (where my pc is). With the cost of the modem aswell, £10 for a few faxes seems pretty expensive to me.

well receive could work the same way - obviously relying on both parties having email accounts & a copy of Open Office

- the idea is that you can assemble a complex document, with tables, graphics, text, whatever, & export it in a format effectively readable by all, you don't have to worry whether the recipient has any more software available, than Adobe Reader

I just thought it could be an alternative to a fax, but, you're right, not a replacement

<edit> and the brief included 'free' as a parameter

Re: FAX via broadband?

Windows XP comes with Fax built in, just bang in a modem and there you go. Well thats what I did.

Re: FAX via broadband?

I beleive i suggested that like 4 posts above? And he gave a valid reason for not wanting to do it which was fair enough.

Re: FAX via broadband?

fax.co.uk

They offer an incoming number, and allow you to send e-mails to numberhere@fax.co.uk for it to be faxed to the recipient.

Not sure on their current costs, as i get this free from plus.net (my ISP)

Re: FAX via broadband?

Thanks to KingPheonix and Neil but both are a paid for service. I'm only with the temp agency until i can gain full time employment on my own steam so i'd rather not pay anything.

It's ok, like i said i'll just scan my timesheet and send it as an attatchment via email.
