Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Phishing Filter feature?

Phishing (pronounced fishing) refers to scams that try to trick you into giving up your personal data: usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, etc. A typical phishing scam works like this: you get an e-mail containing a link to a fraudulent Web site that appears to be valid (like your bank), so that you'll enter your personal information on that site. The Phishing Filter service helps protect you by scanning Web sites you visit and warning you if they are potentially suspicious, and by blocking you from sharing personal information if a site is a known phishing Web site. The filter checks the Web sites you visit in real time, using up-to-the-hour information on phishing sites via an online service run by Microsoft.

What about the pop-ups I want to seeââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚wonÃÃâ €šÂ¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚¬Ã¢â €žÂ¢t they be blocked too?

You decide, with push-button simplicity, if you want Windows Liveâ ¾Ã‚¢ Toolbar to try to block all pop-ups, allow them for certain sites, or allow only one pop-up per site.

Whatâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s so cool about Tabbed Browsing?

Tabbed Browsing lets you open up multiple pages in one window, and switch easily between pages. And you wonââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t have to wait for pages to render each time you view them. See something you want to check out later? Right click to open any link in another tab in the background, and look at it when you feel like it.
