grrrrrrr help me with messenger :(

please could someone help little old me out..... having major probs here with msn messenger. i can access msn messenger via laptop, but on desktop unable to connect, not even getting an error message. Other sites such as windows update and hotmail.com and ebay.co.uk are not loading.

I have run norton, ad-aware. spyblaster and uninstalled msn messenger and reintalled version 6.2 also messnger plus but still nothing

need help asap before i end up doing time for murder - teenage daughter having a tantrum all because she cant get on the computer ( she not having my laptop!!)

Do you have any firewall running on the desktop at all bb?

you could try downloading trillian instead and seeing if that will let you connect to the msn service.

I would post a link but all of the sites about messenger programs are blocked

xp firewall turned off and norton is only anti-virus, but i have disabled that as well and still no joy

Is the desktop running the same internet settings as your Laptop? Proxy etc.
You have tried the reboot the PC trick I suppose, have you checked the desktop is connecting with a valid IP and not a temporary one?

all settings are the same on both, and debbie says i have a valid ip.............what now ???? 14 yr old kid making mum go mental

try downloading trillian from here

it will connect to the msn messenger service and log in there... this will be a work around but might at least keep the teenager happy

The content advisor isn't on is it? Seems strange that the laptop is fine and the desktop is not connecting

has anything been installed on it since it last worked and can you try a system restore?

content advisor not on, but have no clue about this trillian thing, i cant connect to msn messenger from that

Can you check the internet explorer history view for clues? Hijackthis might help to find any exploits that might be running.
