Xbox Wireless Adapter MN-740

Does anyone know if this adapter is available in the UK yet or just the US? ... and if so, where from?

Xbox Wireless Adapter MN-740

Also does anyone know of any benefits this adapter has over a normal bridge, say the Netgear ME101 or the Linksys WET11?
I know it connects and interfaces straight into the Xbox dashboard, but is that it? Is there anything else it does that warrants getting it over a 3rd party device?

Haven't seen it advertised online anywhere in the UK. Since it supports 802.11g, I might get it for the right price.

Read about this in Xboxgamer mag November Issue. The article says:-

Microsoft have been caught trying to sneek out an Xbox-specific wireless LAN broadband adaptor. In late August the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved a submission by Microsoft for their MN-740 Wi-Fi adaptor. Although Microsoft had made no announcement, eagle-eyed inter**** surfers spotted the submission on the FCC's webpages.
The MN-740 is designed to let Xbox Live gamers play online without the use of lengthy ethernet cables, hence the term 'wireless'. Amazing. Plumbed-in consoles will also be able to System Link without cables. The package comes with dashboard updater CD, which solves the technical nightmare of having to diddle the console's settings to accept a Wi-Fi signal.
As yet there are no plans to release the device in the UK. A typically abrupt statement from Uncle Bill's PR henchmen reads simply: "We are not making (any) announcements regarding international product availability." At the time of going to press no US on-sale date had been specified for the MN-740 either, although amazon.com are already accepting pre-orders for $99.99

Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter MN-740

Does it have to be the official xbox one. Linksys do a very similar thing, and they are an excellent manufacturer. I use one of their routers and wish this thing had been around before I ran mucho lengths of cablage from my lounge through to the guitar/games room...

Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter MN-740

11g normally runs at 54mbps. I know the ethernet adapter on the XBox can run upto a maximum of 100mbps for system link games but like you say, BB is no where near that fast yet and won't be for a good while. There's still a fair few people out there who only use 10mbps wired hubs for connecting there boxes together so its not like you actually need anything faster for a system link game anyway. Having 54mbs may just be helpful for products such as music mixer so transfering MP3's will be a little faster.

Wireless-G is faster and that's all I care about. It means I can use one bridge for my laptop and another for the Xbox. M$, hurry freakin up and release the thing in the UK!

Boom, yes we know what G is but the question is what's it's use for Xbox. Ricky said the words there...but IMO doesn't give the understanding of why MS choose G, B would be fine, and cheaper too.

Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter MN-740

Its likely you've answered it yourself there. B is cheaper. I wouldn't put it past MS to put out a G adapter for the sake of a nice pretty slogan on the box reading "The fastest wireless adapter available". There is plenty enough people naive enough to think it would be worth spending the extra cash for a faster link they donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t necessarily need.

Didn't realise that was what you were getting at. For me, I just want to fully use my Wireless G router and, seeing as I don't like running wires around, I'm fully waiting for another remote link in the house so that I can do something other than stare at the wall between load-screens.
