After everything loggd back in I had to specify a proxy to surf the web so my proxy must have also failed.
What is causing all those messages and me dropping the internet and what can be done to stop it?

Re: Manchester proxy

manc-cache-4.server.ntli.net seems to be down, but the rest look OK.
Darned if I can find the address of the Manc CM DHCP/TFTP at the moment to ping it.. looks like it moved along with the proxies but I can't find it. Must be working at the moment anyway since you're now connected mind.

Re: Manchester proxy

Yes I am connected and still using Bagu-cache-4-server as my proxy is still timing out.

would like to know why I am having so much trouble though the modem logs are full of information like that and we often drop the internet for a few seconds but long enough to cause problems and log everything off also high pings when my son is playing cs when this is happening.

Re: Manchester proxy

I will next time it drops again but last time the internet came back as they started to check it and they just blamed the router then.. The logs are from the SACM which proves its not the router.

It still seems the proxy is down as if I use manc proxy I cant access ISPreview yet specify bagu and I can

Re: Manchester proxy

You won't use manc-4 any more than any of the others unless all the sites you use happen to be assigned to that server (statisically unlikely unless you only ever visit one site), and as I understand it the WCCP software will automatically redistribute the load should a proxy fail anyway?

Perhaps it is supposed to happen but I moderate a forum which I visit a lot and its always assigned to manc 4 and if its down I cannot access the forums without specifying a proxy. Which is why I am still on Bagu proxy now and I only test the proxy once a day if the forums fail then I go back to the specified proxy for the rest of that day. Its not like these proxies are saving NTL: anything infact sometimes it must be costing more as many ppl now use ctrl + alt+ f5 to force the proxies to refresh to see if the websites have changed as they are bad at updating when you are building a website online.

That depends on how it fails. In the case of M4 it's totally offline so yes, WCCP should drop it out of the equation. But if the proxy appears responsive, but isn't serving up pages as it should, then you have a problem.

Today I could access the Forum I moderate without specifying any and checks show me that I am not going through any proxy.

You can check your IP/connection with the Connection link at the top of every page on the forum, no external link needed. and yes, it looks like they have disabled the Manchester WCCP at the moment, so you are connecting directly.

FYI, you can also access Cable Forum on Port 81 if you wish, this will always be direct as ntl only intercept Port 80. That's a 'non documented' feature I added a while ago.

I would be interested to know what the specs are of the proxies, maximum throughput expected requests per sec expected etc.

Re: Manchester proxy

This is the second time I have been proxy free and I have to admit the pages open quicker without a proxy than they do with. Also building a website online the changes are noticed imediately iinstead of having to use Ctrl+alt+f5...

NTL please leave the proxy's down its a better service without them
