2 MS Messenger accounts on one PC

Firstly, I am aware that there is already a thread on this subject at http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...=msn+messenger.
However, the above thread deals with 2 MSN Messenger accounts running at the same time on the same machine. All that I am after is having 2 accounts on the same PC, but only running one at a time.

My XP book suggests that I can do this by setting up a new Identity in Outlook Express, creating a new MS Passport and then switching between Identities. Setting up a new Identity seems quite straightforward, but the book (Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out) is rather vague on how to set up a new Passport on the new Identity.

So:

1) Is the book correct? As it's published by MS, I assume so.

2) If I set up a second identity, how do I set up a second Passport and a second Messenger account.

Re: 2 MS Messenger accounts on one PC

StuffPlug http://www.stuffplug.com/ has a feature called Polygamy which allows you to run multiple instances of MSN.
You'll need MsgPlus http://www.msgplus.net/ to run it though. Both free but be careful not to install the MsgPlus sponsor program.

Re: 2 MS Messenger accounts on one PC

If he's running one account at a time all he needs to do is register another hotmail addy isn't it?

Re: 2 MS Messenger accounts on one PC

you could set up two different user accounts and link one pasport to each account. Then its automatic as to which passport is used

Thanks for the reply. How exactly do I do this? I set up my Passport yonks ago, linked to a Yahoo email address, but have never used it. I recently installed MS Messenger, entering my grandson's Hotmail address, and all seemed OK. However, when I now go to MS Messenger it opens for my Passport and there seems to be no way of selecting my grandson's Hotmail account. I don't really want to go down the route of installing more software when, as far as I can see, it shhould be possible to do it via a second Identity.

Re: 2 MS Messenger accounts on one PC

If you right-click on the Messenger icon in your System Tray, do you get an option called something-along-the-lines-of 'Sign in as a different user'? That's what I use when switching between my account and my wife's account.

Re: 2 MS Messenger accounts on one PC

www.mess.be download and run the mess patch on your msn messenger, make sure in the options you enable polygammy this will enable you to run as many msn messenger app's at once you need.

In sense would permit you to simply run two msn accounts at once ( i am doing that as I type this)
