Question Interrogate an NTL 200 Cable Modem?

I typed into my browser the URL http://192.168.100.1/ and was asked for the Username and password. I have previously been told that I should use "root" for BOTH but that gives the error message "401 Unauthorized - Authorization required".

Can anyone please tell me how I can solve this problem?

Erm didn't you ask this before?

By the way the answer last time (which worked) was to reboot the modem and then do it as you need to reboot the modem before going to that IP.

Re: Interrogate an NTL 200 Cable Modem?

Paul,

Wow what a memory. The advice I got over a year ago worked then but since my firmware upgraded last night (for the new 10 meg service) I cannot now interrogate the modem. I have tried "root" & "admin" but neither work so I hoped someone could offer a solution.

Why are you looking to access your modem? I take it you have power cycled the modem itself?

Re: Interrogate an NTL 200 Cable Modem?

Since my 10 meg service consistently gave a 9 meg download this morning but now it gives an average of around 3 meg then I wanted to see whether the signal levels were OK. So, I have power cycled the modem and used "root" twice - that failed. I power cycled again and used "admin" twice but that too failed. Incidentally, I have tried to log in with blanks too but that did not work either.

Re: Interrogate an NTL 200 Cable Modem?

Since I am not using a proxy can anyone please offer any other suggestions?

I have come accross hardware (e.g. my Belkin wireless router) that has a routine for resetting the device to its factory defaults so that a user can overcome problems. Does anyone know whether the NTL Cable Modem can be reset to it's factory defaults?

Re: Interrogate an NTL 200 Cable Modem?

Did you change the login and password to something you would normally use when you logged in last year?

Re: Interrogate an NTL 200 Cable Modem?

Call TS and ask them? Might be that your modem update didn't complete correctly. Tell them it recently updated and since then your speeds are all over the place.

Re: Interrogate an NTL 200 Cable Modem?

Thanks Paul. When I have a spare hour I will call TS - hopefully one day NTL will improve their response times
