anti spam software: recommendations?

The missus has seen a sudden increase of spam (of the type girls don't like to see), on her ntl account. The spam count on this account is starting to equal genuine mails, and she has not been careless with the email address. So I've been looking into anti spam software.

I've installed mailwasher (free version), but frankly, I don't think that bouncing the spam is going to get her off the lists. It looks like a convenient way of managing the spam, but not much more than that.

A spam blocker therefore looks more appropriate, and opinions on effectiveness appear to be mixed. What are people's experiences on this forum with spam blockers. Are there any (preferably free ones) that are to be recommended or steered clear off?

Edit: I am aware of the rules/filter options in email clients. I'm interested in peoples experiences with spam blockers/mailwasher

Try this one mate it costs £19 for the full version you can try it on 20 days trial, it sits in outlook express and scans all the spam then bounces it back.

Re: anti spam software: recommendations?

Cheers,

I've installed Spampal, and it does appear to work quite well.

SpamAssassin looks quite good as well, but unfortunately I'm allergic to compiling source code, so I've opted for the ease of Spampal.
