"Press Red.....Press RED" !! ;p
Ok, what bright spark set the upgraded Set-Top
Box to display the "Press Red" message
top/right so often on BBC1 and BBC2 ?!?...
That pops up 2/3 times when you first visit the channels,
then at odd moments .... 10-15 mins apart ... thereafter
/Wouldn't be so bad if PRESS RED actually DID anything,
but nothing on that Menu *works* yet !!
Only a minor thing, but like ALL "Pop-ups"...
..... bloomin' annoying ;p

Yes, Due to the recent software update you have to press the "back" button to turn it off and also as you point out it comes back on every 15 mins or so !

Noticed it too, and not at any time that it seems you would actualy want to press red - so either the broadcasters are stupid, or the new software is.

It's extremely annoying, whoever it is to blame for it. Why in fact do I even need to be told there is a red button? If I thought it existed and really felt a need to try it out, I'd just press it anyway?

To be fair, I think that the channels are just highlighting there is interactive facility. You could argue just as much against the advertising on the cable channels.

Sky have put a timeout option into their new software. It will automatically remove the red button icon after 15 seconds or so. Maybe NTL will do something similar

Well I don't care who is responsible, but as per the old software, if you turned it off, it would stay off. I think that function of the old software should be put back. I don't give a monkeys if the broadcaster thinks I need to see it. It's my choice not theirs.

You could get some electrical tape and stick it over that part of the screen?

Re: "Press Red.....Press RED" !! ;p
I think it would help if TV announcers would make it clear that only Sky viewers benefit from pressing the red button.
I long for the day when I will be able to press red and bring up the multi-screen news that BBC News 24 rants on about which allows you to choose which news story you would like to watch.

But that would not be correct in some cases. Most of the BBCi stuff works in most ntl areas now. And Telewest. And to some extent on Freeview.

Or they could put in some kind of detection procedure, which senses whether the functionality is there and the software responds accordingly.

Re: "Press Red.....Press RED" !! ;p
Well, it's appearing on News 24 now too
I can't really believe it's the BBC doing it ?!?...
Which leaves ? ? ? ....
Do that on ALL the Channels, NTL, and maybe the Freeview Box looks
a better bet .... IF that doesn't have the "Press Red" pop-up ...
I do only have the 'Basic' TV pack so it would be an option
