supercasinos ?
for the past couple of weeks a row bubbling in government about plans to allow 'supercasinos' to be built in various parts of the country has taken its toll, the bill was passed through the commons and is now looking likely that these 'supercasinos' will get the go ahead.
concessions on tighter laws to allow casinos to be built in areas of the uk.
Quote:
Casinos open 24 hours
Immediate access for public, no 24-hour joining period
Unlimited jackpots in largest casinos
Betting allowed on Good Friday and Christmas Day
A new criminal offence of inviting, permitting or causing a child to gamble
Compulsory age checks by gambling websites operating from the UK
Mystery shopper surveys by the Gambling Commission to check rules followed
Tighter restrictions on betting exchanges
Allowing casinos to advertise for first time

the problem is its likely to exacerbate an already needless problem of gambling to the extreme, yes it helps the economy with jobs and extra income for government, but overall i dont think this country needs it, its just setting a dangerous precedent for US compaines to cause money problems for the uk.

Re: supercasinos ?
I think this is a terrible idea.
What's next? 24 hour unlimited gambling on the internet at places around the world, fruit machines in every pub, a bookies in every high street, and a lottery in every minimart and petrol station? Oh, wait...
It isn't like we need the money, or tourism or anything? Sorry for the sarcasm, but this has been driving me crazy lately.
There are already what I have said, as well as full casinos already around the UK. (I go to one in Southend). I don't buy this whole "It will turn everyone into gamblers". Everyone over 18 can drink and smoke, but do they? I do gamble from time to time, but despite the nany state telling what what I can/can't/should/shouldn't do, I have managed to avoid a gambling addiction.
It will raise a lot of money, that we badly need, and help make our seasides a bit more tolerable. It just doesn't make sense to burn these "supercasinos" when you can already do just as much elsewhere. It is like saying you'll ban porno mags in shops for the sake of the kids, then only ban them in half. And who says every kid does buy them?
I really can't see the logic. Get people out from behind their computers and out socialising. Make some money through cambling, instead of out everyone elses income/petrol duty.
Edit: It isn't just us that is illogical. When I go to Florida, gambling is illegal, until I go on the boat, which sails out to international waters, or til I go down to the indian reservation in Tampa, and gamble there.

Completely a BAD idea !!!
The nation is already in debt and this would only add to the numbers of people wasting money and ending up with nothing.

Then more fool them
I can't abide people telling me what I can and can't do, I'm not a child and don't want to be treated like one.

Re: supercasinos ?
the problem i have with this is that its going to create alot of debt, people (some of us) cannot control the urge to gamble, its creating an intention on the part of the US firms to make a 'quick buck' at the expense of consumers welfare.
its going to put people in debt, people will loose property, gambling addiction can cost relationships even, it can make or break you.
im not wanting to spoil anyones fun but this is an issue that i feel strong about.

Re: supercasinos ?
There's talk of turning Blackpool into a Vegas like resort.
I dont believe you can bring the atmosphere of Vegas to this country - a big part of the attraction is the heat. It's going to be crap.
If you want Vegas then book yourself a holiday there and enjoy the real thing. Get a nice hotel and enjoy baking in the heat as you sit by the pool drinking a cocktail.

But those people can already gamble and get into debt, and we don't have any supercasinos yet. A person would be no more likely to get into debt at a supercasino, than now. Like I said before, you can buy fags in almost every shop. Does that mean everyone smokes?
If there was no gambling atm, you could argue that introducing gambling might have a bad influence no the country, but we are not introducing it here. It has already been here for years.

Re: supercasinos ?
The thing is people complain about the nanny state one hand but then when people are given more control over their lives then they complain again.
Frank Dobson and co. are saying that there is no market for super casinos, if thats the case then the company just wont build them.
There's a new casino opening here in Leicester on the 1st of December (there are HUGE adverts all over the place), I won't be going but if others want to then thats up to them, they are after all adults.

I see from the article there will be one super casino (I suppose that's 'for now' tho).

We have the new Ricoh Arena in Coventry where The Sky Blues play, and part of that was built for an Isle of Capri (company name) Super Casino. The advantage we have over Blackpool atm is that we have it built already. No-one is going to start building in Blackpool until its agreed. Otherwise it could be a massive waste of time and money.

Re: supercasinos ?
From reports on the BBC this morning they are still saying that the location for the "Super Casino" has yet to be decided. Personally I think there are as many negatives as positives in relation to this idea but then they are going to have to start making changes in how they regulate a lot of gambling related sites and issues at some point.

Re: supercasinos ?
I really can't see the problem here. We already have casinos, betting shops, arcades etc. If people will get addicted then they will anyway; and at the end of the day, how far do you go to protect the individual? Ban cigarettes incase they get addicted? Ban alcohol? Ban the internet? These are all things that can damage health and/or relationships. It's time for people to take responsibility for their actions.
On the plus side, it will give employment to many people, initially in the construction industry, and later in the entertainment sector. It will also reduce the number of people who go to Vegas etc for a true gambling holiday (possibly).
My only concern would be the removal of background checks which necessitate the current 24 hour joining period. Other than that, all seems good to me.
