Packard Bell TV card

Model PB-TV100 to be exact.

I hope someone can help me with this.

I've just bought this card and installed it.

It installs the hardware perfectly. And it present in device manager (Winxp-with all updates and patched applied)

BUT - when I try to install the software (flyvideo)

It just keeps coming up with 'Can't get device'

It's not the card - as I can use it perfectly with a demo tv program Fly 2000 TV.

But as it is only a demo I'm not going to be able to use that after 30days.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've also tried various pci slots and uninstalled/reinstalled the software and drivers.

Have you checked for new drivers?
What version of flyvideo by the way.
Was the card in the Pack Bell when purchased? If so whats the model number of the PC?

I have checked for new drivers - yup....

It didn't come with a packard bell - that's just the make of the card

I've tried up to 20.53 flyvideo.

All crash in XP

But it works just fine in Windows2000

So at the moment - I'm setting that up on my Fileserver...

Another possibility I thought of was a version clash or a conflict between your TV card and another device on your machine.

It's possible too that another piece of software, possibly even Windows, is incompatible with the software.

Sometimes too, a program running at startup can interfere with your device.

Hopefuly, when you check these out you may find a solution.

Do you have a flatbed scanner?

If so, I would like you to scan the side of the card with the biggest chip on it.

Or tell me in here what it says on the chip

Most common TV card chips are the BT848 and the BT878.

If you can do this then I may be able to point you to some drivers that will work under Windows XP

Right - time for an update

I took the packard bell tv card back to pcworld today and got a hauppauge one instead.

It works fine in XP - and also has an FM tuner and NICAM which the other one didn't have.

So I'm happy once again and have finally found a use for my other 20inch crt

hi i have exactly the same problem with my packard bell pv tv100 tv card
when i try and open the lifeview it comes up with CANT GET DEVICE? i didnt geet the drivers with the tv card so i had to download it of somewhere? does anyone have the updated drivers for this card and the patch? if so where can i get it from??? thnaks????????

I have exactly the same issue as kawsar, but I run Win 2K Prof with sp4. I wanted to try your solution anyway, but somehow I can't get any of your links to work. Am I wasting my time trying this approach since I'm not using XP.

I've also come across directx 9.0b creating this problem, but have since upgraded to directx 9.0c with no luck. I know my card works fine as I can use it with my other operating system (also Win2Kbut with directx 9.0) Can one go back to a previous version of directx?

Any ideas?

Although I do not have a PB TV card, I have a Hauppauge TV card and the drivers and apps. written for it are buggy. For example, it was pot luck as to whether (under Windows XP or 2000) as to whether the computer would either crash with a blue screen or just freeze up. Either way, it was annoying, and ironically the drivers were more stable under Windows 98 than under XP/2000.

I then found these open source drivers - superb. It still froze at times but not as much and it never blue screened (OK, still not great but a step in the right direction.

). With the new release of the drivers all of the freezing problems had went away and everything has been smooth so far. Never looked back since. They also work well with XP on my new computer and worked well with 2000 on my old machine.
