Jefferies 3rd Annual Communications & Media Conference

I have just listened to the webcast and I have picked out the following as interesting points:
  • Some areas will never be upgraded to digital due to technical reasons
  • London upgrades were taking place as we speak
  • This time next year the network should be 96/97% digital
  • The economics have never worked out in the past to force people off analogue
  • Cheaper STB pricing and netwok economics will come to a point where forced migration will occur, most likely some point next year and into 07 - this will be at the cost of increased churn
  • A PVR is planned for Q2 2006 and it WILL be HDTV ready
  • They have an HDTV plan in place and that will be starting next year into 07
  • Need a mobility option - looking at the service BT will offer combining a landline with a mobile perhaps through wi-fi technology - field trials are taking place with this
  • A new range of packages will be launched to reward people (more savings) more, the more of the services they take - they will not be a time limit on these
  • Loyalty will be rewarded which will be consistant across time and packages
  • Trials of some of the new packages will take place in selected regions next month
  • Longer standing customers will take advantage of the new packages as well as one-off freebies such as an engineer coming out to do a health check on your system and perhaps doings some free upgrades to your equipment - this is someway off and they were just boucning ideas off people in the audience of the conference
A presentation of this conference is available here: http://www.ntl.com/locales/gb/en/inv...0-%20FINAL.pdf

All of it. Just you wait and see. They will be here shortly to complain bitterly that its not enough and it should have been done yesterday and for free.

Well both have all these things planned, but what about the merger? Unless their intentions already have that in mind.

Simon Duffy kept referring to their 'sister company' Telewest

By rights its should be little - the little annoying one that is the apple of everyones eye even if they do something wrong. Its all swept under the carpet. They are perfect. Whereas the bigger sister always get it in the neck no matter how hard she tries

Wonder if Jo Frost would be interested

Re: Jefferies 3rd Annual Communications & Media Conference

Thanks for that very useful summary Bob

Good on them, I say. It's nice to see evidence that they do plan for the future and have a desire to innovate.

Pity they should have done it yesterday, and for free. (/runs and hides)

Rule of thumb for any timeline written by a project manager double it.

So the real timelines likely to be:

PVR: Q4 2006

HDTV: Q4 2007

So the more service you take the cheaper it gets ? Not really a loyalty reward then is it. Loyalty reward should be given to long standing customers who have been putting up with NTL for the last 5 years

I won't hold my breath but I hope they do give long standing customers some rewards for sticking with them. A free PVR and HD screen for example...
