x2 NTL
Hi i currently run one NTL cable modem in my house with 2mb broadband on network wired to one pc and networked wirlessly to another.
Would it be possible to run two cable modems and how would this work on a bill? say 1mb on each?

You can run more than one modem .It will be a totally seperate account though and will require installation.I would imagine this post will be moved and someone more in the know about NTL will respond

we used to have 2x2Mbit in the same house, on separate accounts. if my experience is anything to go by, expect them to get the two confused (repeatedly!). It shouldnt be a problem though, especially if its just on one bill. you will just be charged twice the normal price...
note that with 2x1Mbit you get the same total upload and download speed as 2Mbit, but the usage cap is still pretty low. unless you're going for 2x2Mbit or more, there isnt much point having 2 SACMs.

the problem though is myself and brother are heavy gamers on BF or brother on COD and with current set-up belkin router and wirless connection we both pinging alot and to extreme rates ping of 700+! so was thinkin to solve it splittin connection by running a cable modem each.

Re: x2 NTL
On 2mbit you should be able to play 2 games easily and not have any lag. This more likely points to your belkin router being crap (which they are). Buy a better quality router such as a Linksys or Netgear one and you'll be fine.
I use my 2mbit connection between 4 pc's and very rarely have problems unless someone is downloading with emule/torrent.

Re: x2 NTL
With a decent Linksys router you could also set up QoS to prioritse the gaming traffic.

Re: x2 NTL
QOS (quality of service) basically ensures bandwidth for the data being sent to and from the games network play takes priority over any other traffic. This reduces lag caused by contention (other things asking for bandwidth).
could it be possible your lag is being caused by poor wireless connectivity ? does the problem disappear if you connect both machines wired ?

cant really connect them wired two different rooms, when my wired pc is turned off wireless pc sometimes still gets awful lag and the usual "connection interupted" error we have tried a belkin 54g usb and a intel usb adaptor both didnt improve situation.

Re: x2 NTL
I would say that's poor wireless connectivity. Try changing the wireless channel used. I find that lower is better.

Re: x2 NTL
It depends on a lot of things, basically you just have to "suck it and see"
A good test is to ping the router, change it, ping the router again and check the figures.
