Very Slow eBay

Hi,

I have a problem with my NTL (how surprising I hear you cry)

Everything works fine really - I don't have too many problems generally - the odd reset of the modem a couple of times a month etc Speed etc is fine - though when downloading its reasonably slow unless you use an accelerator.

One thing that is beginning to be a real pain - eBay! It's just so slow - sometimes the pages never load and need a refresh. I thought eBay was just like this for everyone until I used a mates machine on another broadband service and it was really quick.

My modem SNR etc all checks out ok...

Type : Ambit ETH/USB Combo Cable Modem Cable modem : Ambit Cable Modem MAC address : 00:d0:59:xx:xx:xx IP address : 10.161.xx.xx Downstream Receive Power Level : -4.44 dBmv Downstream SNR : 31.51 dB Upstream Transmit Power Level : 46.50 dBmv

Network Access : Enabled Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 2048000 bps Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 200000 bps Maximum Number of CPEs : 1 Software Upgrade File Name : ntlhm120_ntl0001.cpr Software Upgrade AdminStatus : allowProvisioningUpgrade Software Upgrade OperStatus : completeFromProvisioning
Downstream Lock : Locked Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz Downstream Modulation : 64 QAM Downstream Receive Power Level : -4.41 dBmv Downstream SNR : 31.38 dB

Any suggestions?

James

Quite a few people have this problem, James, and it often turns out to be a proxy issue. See Robin Walker's proxy page . There's a lot of information on proxies here, but the essence is to learn how to set a different one, and to look further down for a list of ntl proxies. Post back here again if you have trouble with this, and let us know how you get on.

And welcome to the forum!

Re: Very Slow eBay

You don't use ebay on more than one computer do you? I

If you do, it often seems to mess up the cookies, and then youjust can't seem to get in. As you say you tried it on a friend's I guess this might be the case!!

Try removing any ebay cookies (I go Tools->Internet options, Settings, View Files - and then you can just remove the ebay ones) and try again.....

Re: Very Slow eBay

Ok... so my current cache is via Poplar.

So do I change my browser proxy settings to somewhere like Oxford?

Yes give it a go. Specifying a prixy server in your browsers internet connection settings can often make a difference.

Re: Very Slow eBay

James - FYI - I have removed part of the Mac & ip details from your original post - it's not a good idea to post them on the forum.
