Re: ntl sales guy working at 10.30pm

It's illegal to do door to door after 9pm... you are only allowed to visit people after 9pm if you have an appointment... you should report him!

That's right, they specifically recruited people to call at 10:30pm

How on earth is it ntl's fault that a salesman decided to break the law, and unless people take his name and complain, how would they ever know ?

Whilst it may not be their fault per se, it is their responsibility to ensure that their staff are properly trained and that includes telling them when they are allowed to call on people.

I think I would be pretty miffed at ntl if that had happened to me too.

Re: ntl sales guy working at 10.30pm

Whether they are properly trained or not, wouldn't they just have the common sense to know that 10.30 is a bit late to be knocking on people's doors?

Do you really think that any door to door salesman (ntl or otherwise) is not aware of the law ?

I'm quite sure this person did, and I'm equally sure ntl will not be aware of his activities unless he is reported. The post clearly implies that ntl employed this 'muppet' knowing what he would do, which is complete rubbish.

The man must be short of a brain cell or two, who does he thinks will welcome him with open arms to buy ANY thing off him when he goes knocking on their doors at that time

How can you make the assumption that he was not told ?

People are told not to

Take drugs
Speed
Kill people
Steal

But they still do it.

Sorry but if that salesman decided that he was going to break the law. How would his manager know that he was going to call on someone at that time of night. However if that salesman's manager then found out the next day because the person who he woke up asked for his name. Then his manager could do something about it .

Re: ntl sales guy working at 10.30pm

Unfortunately all companies are responsible for the hours their employees work, what you call a duty of responsibility.

Who knows whether NTL care what time it was so long as they get a sale, but it still should have been reported.

Re: ntl sales guy working at 10.30pm

Sounds to me as if he was checking if anyone was in the house prior to robbing it, either that or it shows just how hard it is to sell ntl products, poor sod.

Clearly not in this instance.

I didn't think the OP implied that from what he said.

Becuase the only other alternative leave me to conclude that he was told but PURPOSEFULLY elected to act in breach of both the law and direct instructions from his employers.

Either way is not too rosy.

And either way ntl is still responsible for his actions whilst he is on company business. And I agree, BTW, this loose cannon should be reported to the company to try and make sure that no-one else acts in this manner and he is dealt with accordingly.
