Exclamation The Remote Mystery

Hi guys, call me demon- not angel ( )

i got a really annoying problem.... My set-top-box doesnt respond to any of the 5/6 remotes that i have... i have the two on the remote instructions article page and an ntl one with two buttons on each side near the top - its blue... tried them all none work.. i used this article on one of them and got the t.v. to respond to the remote but not the set-top-box... any ideas.. please reply any way you can - preferably via email. Thanks in advance..

oh yeah and if this helps - the black one used to work one time.. don't know what happened though.. OH and also, i jus played around with the remote, i kept on tappin the channel up button whilst moving around
it changed the channels for about 6-10 secs. and stopped again! ..

dont ask me if i changed the batteries etc. - i did... trust me, i have 5 remotes lol.

Thanks in Advance if i do get help!

Can you tell us what STB you have? Different ones will require different remotes as the signalling changes. If it is a Pace box, look underneath for the label.

We prefer posting responses on the forum rather than emailing. That way everyone can benefit from the answers given, and you get a better chance of someone comng up with the goods.

Re: The Remote Mystery

Also you won't get loads of peeps giving you the same solution.

Have you cleaned the infared point at the end of the remote and/or the one on the STB?

If the box isn't responding to any of 6 remotes, then there's a fair chance it's knackered. Give NTL a ring and explain the situation, and with any luck they'll send someone round to change it for you. Such are the advantages of renting!

Re: The Remote Mystery

If the STB is a 2000, no blue remote will work - either type of black remote should.

Re: The Remote Mystery

I know this might seem like a reaaaally stupid question but have you inserted the batteries the right way round? Please don't get irritated but I have been known to do this myself(I really must get back to the opticians) so it is possible.
