4K Issues

Hi

Feel free to move this if wrong forum.

I bought a Panasonic 4K OLED before Xmas (had a full HD prior to this) MY other half said that Virgin picture was flicking on and off. I saw this happen. It was similar to switching inputs. My FireTV Cube was fine with no issues.

I swapped the V6 to HDMI 2 and the Cube to HDMI 1. This seemed to cure it however...

I have checked it today and the V6 is set / reverted to 1080i

I've run the video settings on the V6 and manually checking each resolution and then pressing thumbs up takes me all the way through as successful and then saved.

If the automatic settings are used, it states that 2160 is *not* supported.

I thought it was possibly a fault with the TV but the Fire TV Cube is fine and outputs at 2160 on both HDMI 1 and 2.

Has anyone experienced any issues similar to this? Thanks

Re: 4K Issues

These seems to occasionally occur when multiple 4K devices are connected up to different inputs.

Try switching the Fire TV Cube off to see if it stops.

Re: 4K Issues

I'll try it but as mentioned, it doesn't happen when the V6 is set to 1080 which defeats the object of having the V6 and a 4K TV!

Re: 4K Issues

Is it because 4k only kicks in when watching 4k content on a V6? 4K Fire TV runs at 4K with HDR always unless changed to adaptive.

Re: 4K Issues

I have had the same problem with a Samsung tv. Manually selecting the available resolutions fixed the problem as you found out.

Something has to upscale to the native resolution of the screen and it can be either the V6 or the tv. I found that the tv was faster and had a slightly better picture when the tv did the upscaling so I let the tv do the work instead of the V6.

I do find from time to time that the V6 goes back to automatic and flickers again but going through the process of selecting all resolutions fixes things again

Re: 4K Issues

@Hugh - that's the next step.

@jonbxx - Appreciate that but surely if the V6 was only outputting at 1080 then it wouldn't be true UHD on UHD channels despite the fact that it's upscaling

Re: 4K Issues

If you reboot the tv or cable box they will detect each other resolutions correctly.

Hi, in the video outputs screen, you have the option to manually select what resolutions you want the box to output. My understanding was (and I could be wrong here) was that if you selected automatic, then the box upscales everything to the maximum resolution the tv can support. If you manually select all the resolutions instead, the box essentially passes through the signal and the tv does the work instead. I see this on HD channels where my TV reports a 4k signal from the box even though the transmission was 1080p.

4k transmissions are fine but everything else gets upscaled by the box in automatic mode.

Re: 4K Issues

Hi all.

A big thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Winners are:

Hugh, DVD Cinema and Jonbxx - you all win a bottle of Fairy Washing up Liquid. You can choose between Anti-Bacterial, Fresh Pomegranate & Grapefruit or Max Power :-D

Anyway, I purchased a new *certified* high speed HDMI cable and also rebooted both the TV and the V6. I've tested it and no more issues (so far) The V6 picked 2160 as the max resolution the TV could handle so it picked that. If it returns to the cuting out, I will report back.

Cheers All!

Re: 4K Issues

Well, that didn't last long. Back to outputting to 1080p, states 2160 isn't supported even on auto and rebooting the TV and V6. Fire TV cube is ok on 2160

I can only presume that the V6 is faulty which I'll report

Auto detect just detects the possible output resolutions. If a channel is in 1080p, then it will use that. A 2160p TV will upscale it. If a TV can't handle 2160p, then a 2160p channel will be downscaled to 1080p.
I suppose if you only select 2160p on the V6 and disable 1080, 576, 720. then the V6 will upscale a 576 or 1080 channel.

Re: 4K Issues

Unless you only select 2160 in the resolution output - the video will switch to 1080 (or lower) for any non-4K channel.

If the tv switches to 2160 when you select a 4K channel on the V6 then all is good.

The tv is likely to be better at upscaling to 2160 then the V6 - so I left the V6 with just 2160 and 1080 set.

No it still showing as 1080 even on UHD channels.
It was all working well but it looks like it will work fine for a week or so and then start back with the same issues. Annoying

Try enabling only the following:- 1080i, 1080p pass through, and 2160p pass through
