Angry I knew Google was getting greedy, but...

...this is the limit.

I bought milk and bread at my local Lidl...and Google asked me for a DONATION! Apparently the only way round it is to decline it while your (theoretically contactless) card is in the reader!

As Lister might say, let's flag down a cab and head for Real Street here, shall we? Google is a MULTIBILLION-DOLLAR COMPANY! Why in the Name of the Left-Handed Dog* does it need donations?!

Has anyone else had this foisted on them? Apart from anything else, foodstuffs in the UK cost too damn much as it is without "donations" tagged on!

* I dunno, something my late maternal granddad said once. Though I like it as an exhortation, I never did find out what it meant!

You mean this?

This move is part of Lidl’s fundraising efforts for the NSPCC, having recently extended its partnership with the charity by five years.

I think you may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick and proceeded to give yourself a sound thrashing with it.

Red face Re: I knew Google was getting greedy, but...

Oops. I missed the bit about charity - given the way tech giants seem to be grabbing everything they can nowadays, I saw the word 'donation' and naturally - wrongly - assumed it was more of the same. Next time I shop at Lidl I will sheepishly donate. My bad.

Re: I knew Google was getting greedy, but...

My local petrol station has a 25p to charity option when you pay by card ,but the staff have no idea which charity it goes too, my guess is it goes in the owners pocket .

I doubt the owners have any control over it. Technical issues alone would prevent it.
Been happening a long time.
From 2015.

I used a credit card in an esso petrol station earlier this evening.
After entering my PIN a message came up on the screen exactly as it does in a restaurant asking if you want to add a gratuity. This message said:
'Add 25p for charity? Yes/No'
