Lifelong use of branded products.

Some brands disappear, others become too expensive, so we switch to cheaper generic alternatives.

But which branded items have you always had at home, from childhood to now?

My list includes Germaline (antiseptic ointment), OXO and Bovril stock cubes, Bisto gravy powder or granules, and Fray Bentos tinned pies.

The ones I miss are Vesta Risotto and Paella.

Re: Lifelong use of branded products.

Patagonia - my fleece was bought in early 90's and still almost like new. They make them to last from recycled pop bottles.
Still buy Coke and can't see that changing - don't like Pepsi or the shop brands. Colgate or Sensodyne for toothpaste.

Not especially loyal to brands generally. Buy what works/tastes/lasts best. Offers can sometimes make brands good value

They still make the beef curry and chowmein, I saw them in either Aldi or Asda last year. Must admit I did/do like the Paella and the beef curry.
We've moved from most brands however the ones we still use are Anadin extra (as all the generic versions have disappeared off the shelves), Heinz baked beans as the rest of the family claim to be able to taste the difference and also all flavours of Bisto gravy granules.

Re: Lifelong use of branded products.

All Vesta meals are all now crap compared to how they were in the 70/80s. They were ok back then, the curry had sultanas in and cubes of beef(?). A lot of brands have changed over the years due to cutting corners or using cheaper ingredients. Some brands have changed quite a bit of the last couple of years (not for the better). Their excuse is 'New 'improved' Recipe'....

Re: Lifelong use of branded products.

Three that spring to mind: Silver Spoon Sugar, Drapolene Cream, Heinz Oxtail Soup.

Re: Lifelong use of branded products.

Very few - even checked the food cupboards, and it’s mostly supermarket brands rather the "name" brands.

Probably Cadbury’s Dairy Milk & Dr Pepper are the only items that I have bought since my teenage years, and still do - the only other "brand" items we regularly buy are Lizzie’s Low Sugar granola, mini Shredded Wheat, Yorkshire Tea bags, Coke Zero, & San Pellegrino.

Re: Lifelong use of branded products.

I choose named brands wherever possible.

Sometimes if I need an item I may have to go to a local shop and by the best brand on offer

Heinz Kidney soup was a favourite when I was a young lad, as was the dried Bachelors Thick Lincoln Pea soup.

Re: Lifelong use of branded products.

Pot Noodles... Shame they've changed recipes over the years. Also a shame they got rid of the cheese and tomato Pot Noodle. They smelt like puke but tasty after a night out. (80s).

Re: Lifelong use of branded products.

I would say Walkers Crisps, but I've since changed to Tesco branded ones and apart from being far cheaper I prefer the taste.

Bombay Bad Boy of course. Our kids never got to like the original curry, beef and tomato, or chicken and mushroom.

The Pot Noodle Mines are quite close to us.

10 months ago. Aldi launched a competitor, but I have never seen them in stock.
