System lag on boot
Coreys laptop has started lagging during windows boot, it can take upwards of 4 mins as I've timed it from start to finish.
Is there a program that will show me what's booting and if its causing any sort of lag?

Re: System lag on boot
Right-click on Start and select Task Manager.
Select the Startup apps tab.
Select the app that you want to configure. Select Enable to start the app automatically when you sign in. Select Disable to prevent the app from starting automatically.

Re: System lag on boot
I think the point is they dont know what app (or otherwise) is causing the delay.

Re: System lag on boot
Given that the two machines are similar looking at the list of running tasks (task manager) and seeing what is different between them?
That might expose the problem app.

Re: System lag on boot
Perform a Safe Boot and see if that is ok. If it is then you know it is a running app. Then just open start up apps and disable everything not important then reintroduce one by one till you find the culprit. I assume you mean the lag is coming during windows startup and not before hand
to safe boot run msconfig click boot select safe boot restart
To disable start up open task manager select start up apps

Re: System lag on boot
I just had a look for my startup programs the usual way, via msconfig, and there are none listed. Win10.

Re: System lag on boot
Other people are likely to have the same issues, so a more general search(eg Google) would be a good start point.
Can't remember the app or if it's part of Windows, but there is something that allows you to delay a startup programme by a specified time. Something that is not immediately required could be delayed by a few minutes to allow the rest of the system to get going first.

Re: System lag on boot
I think you are referring to services, which can be set to have delayed start up.

Startup programs are now in a tab in Task Manager in Win10.

Re: System lag on boot
Not just what starts when windows starts, but how much RAM does the machine have and what type of hard drive is in it? Is it SSD or mechanical or some sort of flash memory? Also are you talking about from when the laptop is powered up till when it gets to the desktop, or just how long till its usable after windows loads up?
Mechanical drives can be very slow to boot. Also if the machine has been in use for a long while a clean windows install may help with boot times.

That, too, is blank "There are no start-up items to display".

Re: System lag on boot
Where is the delay ? Is it from boot to login prompt or when the login process starts ? Or, is it from login to desktop/apps being available for use ?

Already asked that lets see if you get an answer haha
He really should have tried safe boot by now imo and the ruled out start up apps. And maybe run a good clean up but had no follow up on anything he has tried
