Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

Physio has suggested I buy a compression belt to help my bad back. Does anyone on here use one, does it make a difference? Which one do you own, and how often do you use it, would you recommend using one?

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

I've got an inflatable traction collar for my neck and find the help is variable. It's quite uncomfortable to use but sometimes it's worth it but more often than not I wonder if it's worth the faffing about. I don't use it when I'm feeling good so couldn't say if I felt it helped in day to day management.

Edit: Forgot to say it was about £15 from Amazon and at the time my neck was so bad I'd have spent anything if there was a chance it would help.

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

Thanks for that Grim. On my first appointment with the Physio, she asked me to buy a solid rubber ball, she didn't mention it on my second visit. Now she is advising the belt, I'm wondering if she has shares in Amazon lol!

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

Depends on what your back problem is. I can't comment without knowing.

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

Hi Ramrod, approximately 4 years ago I cracked T12, ever since then, life has been very difficult, the pain is beyond description. I decided to do something about it and went to a back pain clinic.

The treatment was almost worse then the affliction, on the second visit, the 'physio' administered what I can only describe as a hammer like device to each vertribrate all the way down my spine, I was left with a large bruise on my right hip. This treatment only served to make matters even worse, the physio I am now seeing says my back is compressed. Hope this clarifies the situation.

From your description am I correct in assuming that you gave your T12 vertebra an anterior compression (wedge) fracture?

edit....in any case, can you post a link to the back brace that has been recommended please?

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

The doctor only said I had cracked T12 in my spine, whether it was wedge I don't know. The belt recommended is this one, if my memory serves me correctly, I only viewed it on her phone.

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

That might actually be of some help as long as when it's sitting on your pelvis (iliac crests) it reaches slightly above T12 without putting undue compression on the T12 level. You want the belt to cause some long axis traction/decompression of that level without actually pressing too hard on the painful bit. It would be good if you could find a MSK practitioner of any kind who is confident in treating this kind of thing though.

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

Thanks very much for that Ramrod. The doctor actually referred me to the clinic I go to, you would imagine she would have suggested a MSK practitioner near here if there was one. So I will go ahead and order the belt, and give it a try.

Re: Inflatable lower back compression belt ?

This thread reminds me of the old days, someone has a specific problem and receives expert assistance from another member of the forum that'll hopefully set them on the path to resolving or at least easing that situation these days we're more about the bickering

Very true Daddy. Kudos to Ramrod.

The heart seems to have been missing from the forum for so long, I'm so glad to see it's still here when needed. The constant bickering and nitpicking gets very tiresome.

Hope you get some relief from the pain Tinky. xxx

I hope it helps a little. Trouble is that it's trial and error with these kind of things.

I've not done much and my advice may not have helped. I'm hoping that the backbrace will extend to above the level of your fracture and not compress your T12 level. If it does all that then it might decompress T12 enough to give you some relief. As I said, you really need hands on treatment.
