The end in sight for standard TiVO boxes

I've been told its official so I'm posting it.

VM are now no longer "selling" TV only, or TV & Phone only packages.

Any current TV/Broadband customer wanting to drop Broadband will have to give up TV as well. Standard TiVOs also cannot be added on when the maximum number of V6 boxes is reached.

Existing legacy boxes will continue to be supported for the time being.

Currently they would charge to change to V6.

Re: The end in sight for standard TiVO boxes

I have both, the V6 is far faster than the standard but the standard has RGB SCART that goes to our old TV better.

probably no demand for it, cheaper to go 'just broadband' and use a smart TV with all the integrated bells & whistles . . and most people are 100% mobile phone now on cheaper rates than VM anyway.

Re: The end in sight for standard TiVO boxes

I'm surprised the hard discs in the original TiVos are still spinning! When (if?) they tell me I have to swap my pair of V6 boxes for 360s I will take the opportunity to leave Virgin Media after 20+ years as a customer and cut the cord.
I use my £25 Roku streamers far more often than the V6s, and the 360 still sounds like a backward step to me

Re: The end in sight for standard TiVO boxes

What is meant by standard Tivo boxes?

The Tivo box I was given was when the original boxes were starting to be switched off in 2017 and I seem to recall being given a new box rather than a reconditioned box.

Re: The end in sight for standard TiVO boxes

It's the bigger TiVo box with a SCART output, not the HDMI only V6

They mean the non-V6 boxes.

You are correct that the original 1TB boxes were discontinued a few years ago, although some remain in use. If you get a TiVo now, it'll be a 500GB.

Re: The end in sight for standard TiVO boxes

The benefit of the old Tivo box is that it has both scart and hdmi outputs giving you options for extra tvs/recorders.

Re: The end in sight for standard TiVO boxes

No idea what we've got - probably Tivo as it has Scart and HDMI.

I never use it, but wife & daughter find it perfectly adequate for their needs (the amount of crap they record for later viewing)

Indeed, it's the only reason I've kept it and still have a couple of scart cables kicking around the house. Not the best visual quality by todays standards but useful nevertheless.

I believe that the hard drive in the Tivo box i have is 500 mb. Therefore, i presume this is not the original boxes which they are about to discontinue.

The box has a SCART socket and also a port to allow me to watch in high definition.

You need more than a connector to handle the DRM issue.
