My bin's full
Hello.
We have two Tivo boxes, one in our living room (a V6) which we use for TV, one in the kitchen (a basic 500Gb older model), used exclusively for recording and listening to radio.
The kitchen box has a tiddly 8” monitor to see what’s being recorded - no TV.
But when I went today to check on a recently deleted radio programme, in the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder I found (literally) hundreds of TV programmes which we’d never even watched! (There are only us two old people in the house).
What is occurring? Is someone else using our ‘bin’?
As it happens, I couldn't find the programme I was looking for - too many TV programmes mixed in with the few radio ones.
Any ideas welcomed.
Allen.

Have you switched off the automatic 'record like programs' facility?

Re: My bin's full
These will be "Suggestions" that the box has recorded for you automatically. You can turn them off in the settings if you don't want them.

Re: My bin's full
I'll check that out, but who deleted them? The only deletes I've knowingly done on that box have been R4, R4-extra, programmes - most of these clogging up the deletes folder are television programmes which we wouldn't have watched anywhere in the first place!

Re: My bin's full
The box deletes Suggestions itself. It only keeps the newest 50.

Re: My bin's full
Curiouser and...
The 'main' box - the suggestions was switched 'On', and yes, I've seen odd programmes with an 'R' in front of them, which actually haven't recorded (just as well).
Very occasionally (very rarely) one of us says to the other 'Did you record that?' and the other denies all knowledge of it, but this happens once in a blue moon - our 'My Shows' certainly isn't littered with odd programmes that neither of us claims credit for!
On the secondary box, the suggestions was 'Off'. And amongst the 299 deleted recordings are things like The Simpsons (never watch it!)
We have wifi, of course, but haven't got anything deliberately connected to the Router except for the Macs and iPads.
I suppose the only way to clear the Recently Deleted folder is to clear the whole Tivo box, which I don't want to do as there's loads of radio recordings which we haven't yet heard.
Still puzzled.
Allen.

I believe you can delete the entire contents of a folder by selecting it (the folder) and pressing 'clear' on the remote.

Re: My bin's full
No, just tried that. I COULD delete the folder I'd not seen before labelled 'Suggestions' (from the main Tivo), and that went down the spout, but I tried deleting the Recently Deleted folder by the same method, and it won't shift.
Select/Clear, not a sausage.
Not life-threateningly important, of course, but it'd be nice to see the back of it. I can delete them one by tedious one (select/clear/say yes to 'Permanently delete' message).

Re: My bin's full
You can't delete recently deleted as that's where deleted items go in the first place.
Recently deleted doesn't count to recording space.

Fair enough.
Still haven't worked out how this lot came to be in that Tivo's bin in the first place!

Because it's a TiVo! But I am known not to be a great fan of this model.

It is really simple, stripes. The TiVo records suggestions automatically. It does not intrude on your recording capacity - the TiVo will always give priority to your own recordings.
The 'Suggestions' facility is really useful for those people who always complain that there is nothing to watch (generally because they have not made a thorough enough search of the schedules).
If you really don't want it, you can either just ignore it or turn it off altogether, although I don't know why you would want to do that, frankly.
Nor does it matter how many 'recently deleted recordings' are in your folder.

In post 3 it is explained. TiVo recorded suggestions. It has a limit so moves old stuff to deleted. Neither deleted or suggestions folders count towards capacity so won't interfere with your own use. I liked that model except for the speed

Re: My bin's full
But ‘Suggestions’ was turned OFF on the box in question.
Are you saying that Suggestions I didn’t ask for somehow crept into my Deleted folder?
And it DOES matter if I can’t find the one recording I DID delete amongst the 299 spurious ones.

Re: My bin's full
I've had a worse situation where ALL of my recorded programmes have been overwritten with programmes that I never even watch. These were programmes in the so called suggestions tab - which I have never used. When I rang to complain Virgin said that there was nothing they could do as the recording facility was free! So years of recordings have gone down the drain!
I had to reset the box to get rid of all these useless recordings.
There is obviously a problem with the programming of this box and it needs to be fixed but Virgin was not interested.
