Asus router RT-AC66U B1 WI-FI OR WAN CONNECTION

Please be Gentle ,currently use virgin media as isp provider currently have package M100-i have purchased Asus Roter RT-AC66U B1,now my questionn is
i have my virgin media modem set to modem mode connected my router etc and then loaded up Asus Quick Start wizard and on left side of panel click wan connection,and all working fine can connect to internet etc ,my question is am i better to start set up again and choose wi fi over wan connection as i find my internet speed slow or am i missing clicking on various steps like choose static ip dhcp ,as i rember at first it was asking in wifi quick start wizard for virgin media user name password and if it was ppe,lpt2 connetion etc hence i went to wan connection thanks in advance Billy.

If you're connected to the WAN you have set it up correctly

In the routers menu. Navigate to firewall then under general enable the following setting

Respond ICMP Echo (ping) Request from WAN

What difference is that going to make to the OP's speed? That is only needed to set up a BQM.

It's a very well known issue on VM that for poor speeds you should enable ICMP on WAN interface, Not sure why it's needed but i wrote an article about many years ago on here for netgear dg834 routers.

In fact IIRC SHUB3 has ICMP enabled on WAN by default and it can't be turned off... (or couldn't last time i checked)
