This article really disturbs me,that people can destroy something so beautiful and do this with it!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6634727.stm
Its sad people have been so dumbed down today they accept stuff that isnt as good and think its good!!

I would not ever do ANYTHING listed on that page to my cassettes/8 tracks... Most are goregous sounding......

Just a bit of making use of things that people no longer want or need.

No harm in giving them new uses or making them in to something else. Converting to digital is good. It takes the audio and converts it to a good quality file you can store and use still. Takes up less space too.

I get that people like the nostalgia of cassettes but everytime you are playing them you are slowly destroying the tape.
There are better higher quality media available now.

Like the Compact Disc, indestructible (they said) and you can smear strawberry jam on them and it'll still play. (Actually it seems everyone remembers smearing strawberry jam on one (Tomorrows World) but it never actually happened).

We got rid of our CDs, my wife used them down the allotment to keep birds away. We no longer have a CD player anyway.

I've still got a collection of my mine and my wife's CDs. Vinyl collection which is still being added too and a small collection of Minidiscs.

But even records get slightly damaged everyti.e they get played.

Mini Discs were great, it is such a shame they didn't take off. I had a separate player / recorder when I had the works (amp etc). I also had a portable Sony mini disc player that was so good. Copying CDs via optical was so easy and they were so versatile.

Now everything is just streamed via phone/PC etc to the Yamaha AV which does everything without the need for physical media. How times have changed.

Yes I guess it depends on the people who own the tape......

I have the doors first album on the original 1969 cassette which thankfully sounds goregous......

It probably doesn't. Not if it's that old. Everytime a tape is played the tape head rubs along the tape surface. It literally wears it out over time. Will not sound anywhere near as good as it would have when it was new.

That's why digital streaming is so good. High quality sound and no damage to any media.
