Child dies in Santa's arms

Must confess to shedding a few tears when I read this:

Quote:
A US man who dresses up as Santa Claus fulfilled a dying boy's Christmas wish by visiting him at his bedside, before the youngster passed away in his arms.
Eric Schmitt-Matzen rushed to a local in Tennessee hospital after receiving a call about a terminally ill five-year-old boy who wanted to see Santa Claus.
The 60-year-old impersonator said he gave the child a present and a big hug before holding him as he died.
The boy's family watched on from the hallway as they cried, he told the BBC.
"When I felt the life go from him, I looked up, tears running down my face, and looked over at the window and that's when mom started screaming," he said.
Mr Schmitt-Matzen said he had asked family members to remain outside the room if they were going to break into tears when he arrived for the visit.
"I have to be the happy guy that makes this kid feel great and smile and forget his worries," he said.
"I said: 'If you're going to lose it, you have step out in the hallway and afterwards, I'll stand out in the hall and cry with you.'"

Re: Child dies in Santa's arms

A jovial story for the festive period.................

This why I don't read papers, and I vet the stories I read. I saw this story the other day and read it, and yes as someone with a 5 year old son I lost it.

And after I regained my composure I thought to myself 'what did that achieve apart from upsetting me?'

The world is a horrible place and horrible things happen but that story would have been just fine - even uplifting - if was just about a dying boy, passing in Santa's arms and his last breath hopefully being a peaceful and contented one.

But in my opinion the quotes provided, serve to only upset the reader.

Yes and sometimes we may lose sight of how many good people there are out there. For those of us who entrust our children and loved ones into the care of others that's a comforting thought at a time when there's never been so much publicity about abuse etc.

There is no proof that this story is true apparently.
