Networked TiVos - What's The Point?
I've finally retired my old SA V+ box in the bedroom and replaced it with a TiVo. I was looking forward to networking it with the TiVo in the living room and watching some of the dozens of recordings I've accumulated. I was bitterly disappointed to find that NOT ONE of my recordings is permitted to be viewed on the other TiVo. Surely this is missing the whole point of being able to network the two TiVos together.
My question - are there any recordings of channels I can watch in this way and, if so, is there a list (it's probably a very small list) of channels where this is permitted?

There is a list in the drop-down menu on this page - http://store.virginmedia.com/discove...s.snippet.html
All the Sky channels work fine - BBC/ITV tv are NOT allowed.

I think I must have taken a stupid pill this morning but I can't find the list you mentioned unless it's the multi-room streaming list which is full of channels I rarely watch or record.

Yep its the multi-room streaming list... but even that is misleading for example you can stream some of the SD channels but not the HD version...

It's a bit like TV Anywhere then.
VM advertise these features but they're so hobbled by rights issues as to make them pretty much useless.

The wording on that page is also a misrepresentation.

If you have multiple TiVo boxes you can even stream recordings from one room to another - so you can finish that episode of Homeland you started in the living room when you get in bed.
|
Homeland was on one of the many channels it's not permitted to watch on a networked TiVo.

You don't need 2 TiVo's to stream recorded content to another room. All you need is a wireless AV sender, cheaper and no restriction on what you can stream.

I dont cy over any of it, I just think its extremely dumb.
One day the idiots that make these rules up will realise this is why torrents are so popular.

Yes - from the Scart output - either hardwire or with a wireless sender. You could also use the HDMI, if you've an HDMI splitter.
Don't expect perfect quality, but for a bedroom tv, I get very good results. You can also control Tivo remotely using one of the mobile phone apps that are available.

Re: Networked TiVos - What's The Point?
For my sons bedroom i plan on getting 2 x HDMI to ethernet cables and sending the picture over a powerline adapter to his bedroom...
Seems silly paying for another box when the one in my bedroom is not used during the day

Re: Networked TiVos - What's The Point?
Not sure if it would work yet as i haven't tried... but my theory would be this...
HDMI splitter on back of TiVo --> HDMI cable to ethernet converter ---> Ethernet cable to Powerline in Bedroom 1.
then
Powerline in Bedroom 2 ---> ethernet converter ---> HDMI to TV
using the app as a remote control.
The powerline adapters i currently have, have 3 ports on 2, and i have a spare with a single port (to be used with the new tv) and seems to stream HD from TiVo to TiVo perfectly... so i can't see an issue

Hi DJSaders, In my opinion your solution will not work the way you want it to. Those HDMI over ethernet adapters normally need a dedicated cable between them. I'll be surprised if going over a powerline with other network traffic will give you a good picture if any picture at all. Worth a try I guess and I'm happy to be proved wrong
