Yodel workers carelessly throw parcels between lorries

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news...throw-10632739

When l watched and read this item, doesn't surprise me one bit.

Most delivery drivers now are sub contracted out now on a multi drop deal, so the more deliveries you make, the more money you earn.

I have had parcels thrown over our garden fence, parcels thrown onto our doorstep, and the driver walk away without a signature. Then find the contents broken.

I stopped being a delivery driver some ten years ago, as the pressure put on me to finish deliveries 5pm was near impossible.

I started at 6.00am in Woolwich, where my depot was, and had to deliver to approx. 60 locations finishing in Gloucester and then head home to Twickenham and then start again at 6.

I delivered wine, and you drove the full length of the UK. And most of the time you left it on a bin, or even dropped inside someone's garden - at the request of the transport manager.

And with Xmas now upon us, delivery companies will go full speed to deliver goods, no matter how - as long as you get a signature, that's all they care about

Well one of my pressies from the wife was delivered by Royal Mail on Saturday and was smashed. Postie arrived in his van and said it looks broke. Item was heavy and the wee old guy must have dropped it.

i remember a few years ago i ordered a vhs tape [gardening] my letter box is narrow and will not allow a vhs tape to pass through it but this didn't deter the postie he forced it through and smashed the tape to pieces .

Re: Yodel workers carelessly throw parcels between lorries

tbh i find deliveries a lot better these days, particularly by RM. At least they try and leave it somewhere safe now rather than taking it back to the depot. Amazon's own delivery service is excellent, they deliver next day now even on Super Saver, don't know why anyone bothers with Prime.

Yodel, however have always been pants and cheap, which is why VM use them...

I keep reading about next day on super saver but my experience is if its not on prime then they take 3-4 days to even dispatch it, so how you getting same day dispatch on super saver I dont know. Prime doesnt make delivery faster, it makes dispatch faster.

Re: Yodel workers carelessly throw parcels between lorries

It depends on the time of year with Amazon I think. When Christmas gets close, they seem so keen to get everything out in time, it pretty much flies out the door ASAP, often regardless of which delivery level you booked. I have an order of two items in transit at the moment, which were dispatched separately "to prevent delay" as sometimes happens - although the emails show the items left the warehouse about 90 minutes apart, are both due to arrive on the same day, and one of them is a sub-£3 "add on" item that is only meant to come with a larger order. It will probably cost them as much in courier charges as I paid for the item.

As for who is any good coming out here to our slightly out-of-the-way rural address, well all the regular drivers for all the main companies are reliable and they know where to leave stuff if we're not here. The exceptions are relief drivers covering days off, who frequently report "delivery attempted" without ever coming within 10 miles of us, and Parcel Farce, who are lazy gits who take advantage of the local RM delivery office - they leave the package down there and then put the calling card in the post bag, so we get the card the next day, and then have to drive down there to get the parcel.

I'd agree with that. Everything we've ordered from Amazon in the last week or so come within a couple of days and they were all free delivery. They're obviously keen to keep the decks clear at such a busy time and that suits me just fine.

They can change the name but they cannot change the slapdash nature of the company.

Re: Yodel workers carelessly throw parcels between lorries

I had a courier really take the mick once (I think it was UPS, but I can't be sure).

I got a call asking if I could give an address in either of the two towns nearest my then home (each about 7 miles away) to take the delivery, as the courier didn't want to have to drive the two miles each way from the main road to my village.

Suffice to say I wasn't impressed...

Personally, I think all online sellers should show what courier they use at the online checkout.

Re: Yodel workers carelessly throw parcels between lorries

All couriers are the same, they work on a multi service. And get paid for that amount of parcels.

Royal Mail are brilliant, if there is no one home. They either leave with a neighbour or leave a card.

All the other companies, just be careful. I think mention before that we bought something online from Poundland. It arrive by car, and the driver just put on the doorstep and walked away - about 80% was broken. And Poundland didn't have a clue on what to do

Royal Mail do the exact same thing!! AS I posted above fragile package was damaged and all the old fool could say was 'careful it looks broken' !

They even leave cards without even attempting delivery.

Over the years we've lived here we've had some shocking experiences with Royal Mail with everything from faked recorded delivery signatures to regularly receiving the wrong mail and/or our letters going astray to neighbouring addresses and even different streets.

I gave up complaining about it in the end because Postwatch were about as effective as a chocolate fireguard and were unable to force RM to do anything meaningful to deal with the problem. Even now after all these years we still don't have a regular postman as RM, in their infinite wisdom, evidently feel allowing their staff time to actually get to know the round is a bad idea...
