When are we getting a new 4K Tivo?
The current Virgin Media Tivo is now past it's sell by date. It is incredibly slow, particularly some of the apps (e.g. Netflix is the worst).
So when are we getting a new 4K Tivo?
Sky are apparently close to release on their new box.

Re: When are we getting a new 4K Tivo?
Nothing has been announced as to if / when Virgin Media will release a 4K compatible box.
There is only one 4K broadcast channels available in the UK which is exclusive to BT and sent over broadband at present, so there isn't really a pressing need.
Netflix 4K and Amazon 4K is available on UHD TVs with compatible hardware and an internet connection.

Re: When are we getting a new 4K Tivo?
Thanks Ben.
The pressing need is that the current Tivo is so slow and annoying to use, 4K would just be a nice extra.
The Tivo is by far the slowest TV box currently on sale.

There is no doubt now that we certainly need a new enhanced TiVo but whether its a 4K one is open to question.

Re: When are we getting a new 4K Tivo?
I really dont see the need for 4k TiVO, for most programmes in a domestic situation how many folks can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p anyway ?
My view would be to hold fire on a new TiVO as such and focus on the next generation streaming and cloud solution with simpler multi room solutions.

Not sure what compression yoiu can get on 4K but the difference in practical capacity between recording SD and HD makes a signifcant imapct on ho much you can record and archive. I can only image the hit on disk space a 4K film would make.... 2TB bo a standard ?

I shouldn't think we would get a disk space problem with a 4K box. We will save our 'recordings' to the cloud instead.

True - but it's the same thing as for Netflix and Amazon. If it's built into the TV you don't need to wait for a new TiVo box.

I personally don't find TiVo slow or annoying to use and I've been using since it first came out. But then I am not expecting it to run as fast as instant like my Mac or phone.

The Tivo can be a bit slow but it is not the major problem that some make it out to be, and it is certainly the STB with the best functionality.
I presume the slowness is simply the result of how much it can do together with inadequate memory.

The time it takes to load Netflix is really poor.

Re: When are we getting a new 4K Tivo?
Until bit rates pickup to make even HD acceptable for panning content 4K is a pipe dream, at least at any quality for a moving picture.

Why not? As a customer you should have high expectations IMO.
I think that the future of PVR's is limited. With the advent of VOD and cloud based applications; VM may well decide that the current TiVo will be the last.

Yes, Ben, this approach would be very well received in this household, as long as it didn't unexpectedly disappear after 12 months!

There's nothing wrong with the TIVO that more memory wouldn't resolve. It was quick when it first came out, remember?
