Stopping Mobile trying to switch to locked wifi ?

Hi all

I have a Samsung S5 and have a number of Wi-Fi networks I connect to at : home and work.

I also have a data plan 3 GB per month for mobile data.

I some things move around town streaming music on my mobile over my mobile data plan and have a problem that there are obviously loads of networks out there which my phone picks up and try’s to connect to and as a result disconnects me from mobile data and hence music stops !

Is there a way of setting phone so it only connects to my networks : I do have 3 separate points at home like Wi-Fi extenders so I would like my phone scan and pick the strongest one if possible

I am asking too much....ie ok to scan and connect to Wi-Fi network but only mine / work if not and I am out simply stay on mobile data

Would appreciate any comments or advice.

Regards

Mike

Is it not possible for you to turn WiFi off when not at home or work? Utilise the WiFi shortcut from the android pull down menu.

All phones are always set to only connect to your own networks unless you change the setting or install an app that overrides it.

You've either changed the setting yourself and told it to automatically connect to everything it sees (unlikely, because this is such a dumb idea most manufacturers won't even give you the setting anymore) or you've installed an app that constantly scans for WiFi signals and connects to anything it finds. Which is also a bad idea and I'd uninstall that piece of junk immediately.

Mike, go to settings wifi> sub menu>advanced, in there there is an option called always allow scanning which gives Google location and other progs access to scan for wifi networks. Try unticking that, also try turning off smart network switch when out and about.

Re: Stopping Mobile trying to switch to locked wifi ?

In the WiFi setting you can see all the existing networks you've previously connected to and remove them - you may find that you've connected to places like The Cloud, O2 WiFi etc, so as they are in the approved list your phone will try and use them even if you're on the edge of their range.

If you remove these then it should help.
