2 1/2 years for fatal child abuse

A dad from South East London who neglected his one year old daughter before she died has been jailed for two and a half years.

Amani Mohamed was found with 70 separate fractures to her body at her home in Abbey Wood in February 2013. She was unresponsive when she was found and she was declared dead in hospital less than half an hour later.

Her father Shidane Omar Mohamed, 44, (pictured) has been given a two and a half year jail sentence for child neglect and and her mother, Kafiyu Dahir Tabarak, 36, has given a two year suspended sentence and told to adhere to a curfew between the hours of 9pm and 6am...

... "The level of abuse suffered by this toddler was incomprehensible; even more so given that the abuse was inflicted by either one or both of her parents."

I can't imagine any reasonable person believes these sentences properly reflect the severity of the crime so hope they're reviewed and increased significantly.

If by the 'one' you're referring to him likely being Muslim then I don't know about that but it's certainly a disgustingly short sentence.

Child neglect!!

These poor excuses for parents murdered their child and have just been given low level sentences for a much lesser offence than causing the death of an innocent child. Surely the law must be changed if refusing to explain how a child in your care suffered 70 separate fractures on her body over a period of two to four weeks means you get away with a much lesser charge.

I don't normally want retribution but in this case I hope his fellow inmates get the chance to show him how much pain he caused this poor child and how frightened she must have been.

His "fellow inmates" could probably be of the same ilk as many get segregated by religion.

The problem for me is will we see this get refereed back to the court for being to lenient, i bet not.

Just another example of the British law system not wanting to look Racist.

Its getting to a point that a hate preacher will be part of the cabinet in the government because of representation and free speech.

I have seen similar cases get similar sentences, he will be out in 12-18 months for good behaviour.

No not surprised at all. But then if the public doesn't bother to react to unfairnesses such as this, things will never change. It really is disgusting to think that an animal like this who refused to even answer questions about the abuse could be walking free by the summer of next year.

Playing devil's advocate here, I don't see anything that suggests his background, race, perceived religion etc played a part in the sentence. It does seem unduly light obviously but there are countless cases where criminals adhering to the type of demographic that people are hinting at in this thread have received long and "more justified" stretches inside.

I would have suggested mitigating circumstances such as an early guilty plea etc but it says he didn't answer any police questions. It's odd but I just can't see anything 'PC' going on here.

Behaviour likes this is not exclusive to certain races/cultures as plenty of threads on this site clearly demonstrate. What may be an issue is a certain 'reluctance' on the part of the authorities to expose and robustly deal with situations in which there seems to be a significant racial or cultural component. I don't think that's the case here however and it'll be interesting to find out whether there will be an appeal.
