Bloody immigration!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-30370570
I mean there are plenty of reasons to avoid going to Port Talbot but blaming it on immigrants? Farage is getting so desperate his scraping has gone through the bottom of the barrel and is now several inches below ground.

Re: Bloody immigration!
This did make me laugh, anyone in Wales or just east of the Severn crossing knows that a drive into Wales on a Friday evening is going to take considerably longer than normal.
On a lighter note though, perhaps Farage was talking about all the English in Wales?

Re: Bloody immigration!
I wonder if this week's cold spell of weather is due to out-of-control immigration too.

Thing is I think Farage has shot himself in the foot with this one. He'll have been advised that areas of Port Talbot have high unemployment with low-investment and little long-term prospects so this seems like a fairly obvious attempt at stirring up some "immigrants coming over here, taking our jobs/council houses/NHS appointments etc" ill-feeling.
What he hasn't taken in to account is the fact Port Talbot actually has a comparatively-low percentage of immigrants.

He's taken that fully into account, it's areas that have little or no immigration that are ukips biggest supporters, areas like Clacton and Rochester for instance, xenophobia works best when it's still an unknown fear after all.

Anyway, Farage being Farage? Check. Incoming "retraction" while not actually retracting what he said? Probably. UKIP supporters continuing to blindly follow what he says despite more spin than a Zanussi? Double check.

If he had any sense at all he'd have blamed years of Labour mismanagement of transport infrstructure investment, but no...

He'll just move the goalposts. Say he was talking about how increased immigration causes strain on infrastructure which is a far more solid position for him to argue. It's certainly better than claiming he was late on a specific day due to a delay on a specific route caused by immigration. Then he will claim the critics of this comment are being politically correct and that it's not racist to discuss immigration - leaving out the part of what the actual criticism is about.
Farage is an expect at this though. Making vague comments that are intentionally designed to court attention and controversy but are not themselves objectionable. Comments which can be perceived as common sense in one light or inflammatory in another. He baits people into criticising him and then slightly expands the comment to make them seem unreasonable and slam them for dismissing valid concerns.
Look at the story where he said children from migrants should be included in figures about the impact upon migration. It's quite reasonable in some respects but it's also unworkable in practise, it implies people with Foreign born parents are somewhat migrants and it's not how anyone measures migration. It also leaves out the question of people with only one parent who is British. Still the people minded to favour UKIP see the common sense, those minded to be critical of them seen the xenophobia. Brilliant baiting.
This is the same, no doubt about it. Sometime this afternoon he'll comment on it and say he was discussing the strain of mass migration on infrastructure and that those criticising him are only doing so because they would rather not talk about it. It's also a warm up for his performance on Question Time this week. It ensures migration is mentioned.

I wont doubt he is an effective politician and what he does is actually political genius.
What I wont accept is people defending him for being "plain speaking" when he is possibly the slipperiest politician we have seen since Tony Blair. He is so slimy and as you say, no matter what criticisms you have of his antics, he will always have a "get out".
I admire his political skill, while still completely disagreeing with nearly everything he says.

I'm waiting for his outrage that a film about an immigrant with a penchant for marmalade sandwiches is aimed at children

Illegal immigrant with a penchant for sex, violence and bad language you mean, fortunately steps have already been taken to protect our children from this menace. They come over here, trying to corrupt the children...
